Grooming Manish Pandey for 50 overs

Recommended Posts

This thread is not about youngsters like Ishan Kishan or Rishab Pant or any other youngster.

This is about a successfull 27 year old Manish Pandey.

I think it is high time that we start grooming some other players also who are not considered youngsters but are also young.

Manish Pandey had started well and played well in Australia and then all of a sudden failed a bit in the middle at home against teams like New Zealand.

Honestly, at 27 years of age and after having scored lot of runs, I am all for giving such talents like Pandey a good long run in our 50 over side.

We have to be patient with him. He is not your stylish 2020 success story who should be picked in 20 over side but he is a player who can turn out to be our permanent member for the 50 over world cup in 2019.

We need some players whom we can depend on if players like Kohli, Rohit, Dhoni are not available for some series.

Hence, it is important to keep grooming a player like Manish Pandey even if we give chances to youngsters side by side.

He is a quality player and even if he has a bad CT, I think this guy deserves a long rope.

I get the feeling that many people are starting to not like him because they want youngsters in the side. Yes, ideally i would love to have those youngsters but at the same time such players like Pandey also shouldn't go out of selector's radar if they have a bad run.

I am glad that he is in CT squad, and now it is high time that he starts in our playing x1 instead of sitting on the bench.

Problem with him is he is kind of like Rohit. Quite talented and can play some great knocks but then will also have some strange failures where you suspect his temperament.

But definitely deserves a longer run in the team. right now older guys like Yuvraj and Jadhav are in the mix so he will have to be paitient and bide his time and grab opportunity when it comes

So who does he replace? Jadhav? Yuvi? Dhoni?

Whoever is playing better in the warm ups should get the nod ahead for the first game, but regardless of CT tournament, he shouldn't be forgotten simce will being some youngsters like Pant etc. It is good to focus on youngsters but also important to continue to imvest in Pandey.

Ideally if the game is tomorrow, I will play Pandey for Yuvraj.

This will be a dream team for the next world cup.

Pant

Iyer

Kohli

KL

Pandey

Rohit

Hardik...

Ideally, we can develop Pandey to come little early like 4-5 since he is not a proper finisher. Thing with Pandey is that he doesn't hit from get go.

He needs time so if he is in during the first 30 overs, he can finish off better than coming in at 40th over and looking to accelerate from ball 1 where he might struggle.

Too tough for him to be in playing 11, with the punjabi yaarana of Kohli/Yuvraj, now that Yuvraj came among runs.

How is it a punjabi yaraana, pandey failed in NZ series and then yuvi got a chance n made runs

Its fair.....

Yuvi only got a chance coz pandey gave him by failing

Ideally Pandey should be for dhoni. Similar type of accumulating batting and no 4 batsman. But thats not happening. Lmao. Its funny how dhoni is always safe inspite of being perfect candidate to get replaced.Yuvi can still slog a few.Not saying he has still got it. He should also be out.

He needed a longer rope , he scored a 100 in Aus chasing (Kohli style). 3 ODIs he failed and he was dropped out of 11. He is in 15 at least in spite of the yaarana.

HE wasnt even getting runs in domestic, he was struggling with his form

U cnt keep playing a player who is nt even in form. Now with some runs he is back

If Rohit and Dhawan perform then Pandey will also be competing with Lokesh for a spot in the middle order. And with the way kishan and pant are performing in domestic competitions he may be competing with them too unless Dhoni retires soon. He seems to be very unlucky in terms of timing.

He will not get opportunities in the playing 11.Kohli will not prefer him over Yuvraj.Jadhav is  automatic choice after his performance against England

Pandey is far more versatile player than Rohit who can only open . Hes one of the better players underpressure in the country , but if there is no slot in the Top4 I would not play him .

Overall a very very good player to have in the squad , not necessarily a regular in playing 11 .

Pandey should be ahead of Rahane in the ODI pecking order.  Only way to crack the ODI batting club for Team India is to score centuries - you rarely get chances to do that unless you bat in the top 4.  Pandey has scored 1 in a chase already away from home - he's good enough to to be in the mix - but unfortunately for him - he's the wrong type of batsman when Team India needs a Glenn Maxwell/ in-prime Yusuf Pathan type.   He is at risk of going the Kaif way - fitting a #3 or 4 type batsman lower down the order because the Sauravs and Rahuls couldn't be pushed down.

I must have written the above paragraph and not posted it - it was still there when I tried to respond on this thread.  Pretty much what I wanted to say on this.

Pandey, Jadhav, Pandya should be our #4/5/6 with 5 and 6 being interchanged often enough to give Pandya experience in batting longer in ODIs.   The sooner this happens, the better for our team's WC chances. I'm not a 100% all-in on Jadhav - but he at least deserves a fair run at #5 or higher, so that he can either make a case for himself, or get himself ruled out.

Yes, Pant is surely in but Pandey too should be in.
