  1. 1. Should Shami play over Pandya?

    • Yes. We need a proper 5th bowler.

    • No. Pandya is very valuable as a finisher and in the field.

Decisions regarding batting are not taken based on one match.

Pandya bowled well against Pakistan and South Africa.... so, in 2 out of 4 matches.

Pandya bowled 10 overs for 52 runs for 1 wicket against SA - how is that good ?    He had the highest RPO for all the bowlers while bowling with no field restrictions !

Against Sri lanka  -  7 overs for 51 runs - 0 Wickets.

One more thing in favor of Pandya - he has one well against Pakistan. In Asia Cup he picked up 3/10 or some such and in the opening game he picked up 2 wkts. IMO he's a must against Pakistan :agree:

ER of 5.2  with 1 wicket is quite good for an all-rounder

Pandya also had an ER of just 5.3 with 2 wickets against Pakistan... which is good

So, 2 good matches as a bowler out of 4..... which is acceptable for an allrounder who can hit big shots at a very high SR.

Again , Pandya cannot be given more leaverage just because he is an all rounder.   If we didn't have a better option than Pandya then this would apply but if Pandya is blocking Umesh/Shami who are specialist bowlers and are strike bowlers why settle for Pandya ?

I rather have 10 overs with 4 or less RPO from Umesh/Shami and 2-3 wickets than Pandya with 5.2 RPO with 1 wicket

so it isn't 2 but 1 out of 4.

Teams always feel comfortable playing with 7 batsmen in ODIs.   Rarely have I seen a team play 6 batsmen.

The 5th bowler has to be an all-rounder.

Jadeja is NOT a  batsman in ODIs

He has a SR of 85 batting at No.7 most of his life and sometimes lower.... and that is poorer than poor

A batsman at No.7 means a really high SR one..... someone with a SR of 125+ like  Pandya

Also with yuvi , jadhav n ashwin in side....u cant take out a good fielder like pandya n add someone one like shami who is coming from injury

People here are tooo harsh on pandya n without any sense , he goes for runs take him out

Well he aint a bowler 1st

Even main bowlers go for heavy runs these days, look at fizz today saara fizz nikal gaya

Pandya is an all rounder who adds a lot to this team

Jadeja as batsman have been a failed experiment of decade in LOI

for the team composition , if Pandya is to be left out , there isn't another choice

Pandya is no better a batsman than Jadeja ...he is as limited

Ur expecting umesh to go at less runs, umesh can fall on any side....the minute u start taking on he looses the plot and can give a lot of runs

That is grossly incorrect.

Pandya just played an innings of 80 off 55 in a practice match and that showcases his batting ability.

Never seen Jadeja play such innings in  50 over matches.

Pandya's  SR of 130 and average of 47 in 10 ODIs  showcases his batting ability too.

Jadeja  has a SR of 85.

At 7 u only shud have one quality hitting the ball and Pandya is one the best hitters in the country ......

Comparison btw his n jadeja batting is most bizzare thing i have heard

Pandya is one of the best hitters ?   Dude get off the IPL train......every single person hits in that including Samson , Pant , Raina , Other Pandya ,  Manish Pandey ..  .  Pandya with such limited batting innings in ODI is the best hitter is absurd
