Virat Kohli opens up about Anil Kumble's resignation

From the toilet paper...so take it with a pinch of salt.

Allegations against Kumble

- He wanted a say in the playing eleven. The first crack in the coach-captain relationship came during India's tour of WI last year.

- Authoritarian and rigid in handling players. Two senior cricketers, who have worked with Kumble in the IPL too, say he's 'difficult'.

- Kumble was in denial throughout that there was anything wrong with him. It was always the other guy's fault.

- Refused to come to peace with the idea that this was Kohli's team

One of issues was that Kumble had been demanding as much money as a Grade A player’s total remuneration, which came to about R9.5 crore. Although there had been reports that the coach wanted R7.5 crore, a 1 crore increment over the R6.5 crore he was already getting, it has been learnt that he had increased the demand and that didn’t go down well with Kohli.

That apart, there were issues over selection of players. Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav, who made his Test debut in Dharamsala against Australia, was the bone of contention and it has been learnt that Kohli had been pushing for his name even as coach Kumble was objecting to his inclusion. Kumble, it is learnt, had been pushing for Karun Nair, who was struggling against Australia, and that reportedly didn’t go down well with the India captain.

Yeah...first time I read it this way.

Till now it was always shown as kohli not wanting kuldeep.

I hope this version is true because we desperately need to blood some of the younger lot . Kohli is incharge now and really hope he was backing kuldeep.

i have a feeling its true and also kumble backing nair must also be true

"He (Anil) wants to be the alpha-male in the dressing room. He wants a say in the playing XI, the reason why he wanted the coach to be a selector too. It doesn't work like that. It's always the captain's team - whether it was Sourav or Rahul or MS. And now, it's Virat's," added the source.

This is the key, and ultimately sums up. It's captain who face the scrutiny and thus it's his and only his decisions that matters on the field.

That's really interesting.

Kohli also picked Kuldeep yesterday ahead of Jadeja.

Srilanka tour should make a lot of things clear.

Today lots of anti kumble article with some more dressing room sanctity being maintained. :phehe: Wonder who is leaking it now if kumble was accused of leaking before. Tide is against Kumble in media again. Kohli fans are delusional if they believe in fake words of kohli in press conferences. :agree:

Believe its both kumble and players being responsible for the mess. But this superstar culture is getting out of hands. Players need to take disagreement with maturity. They cannot get Coaches and commentators sacked. Heck, even a new kid like Bumrah is slowly learning the traits from these superstars. He cannot take a freaking joke. The current bunch is cowards. They cannot take any criticism. They just don't want any criticism.

Yup the dangerous precedent was set by srinivasan and bcci when they first made commentators sign contracts which prohibited them from speaking on selection, captaincy.Players were made to feel nobody can speak against them .They sacked harsha bhogle for being neutral.Kumble was next victim of player power as only kohli would not have been able to remove kumble he must have had supprt of dhoni and yuvi ,rohit and rest would fall in line.

I was actually anticipating this eventually. This was going to happen courtesy the media contacts of these current day players and their agents. This is not going away so quickly. Bit by bit slowly wait and see Kumble's name dragged into the mud. All to protect the image of the current day entitled cricketing Demi Gods

Players forced Kapil Dev to resign and that was in 1997.

And then that happened with Greg Chappell in 2007.

You are very naive if this player power is new in Indian cricket.

Yeah right only Kumble has the right to throw the mud at players .

How dare players put their side of the story.

I think you are naive to compare today's gen with what happened earlier.Greg Chappel took on likes of Sachin,Ganguly, Sehwag, bhajji yet he was not sacked till he had a disastrous world cup.

Today it's not player power it's arrogance which started with Dhoni which has lead to gagging of commentators and players unable to take criticism.

Kumble was not even actually removed. His contract got over. The players were not comfortable with coach and informed bcci . that is the way things should happen.

The players or captain did not get him removed mid  way through his term.

His contract was renewed by CAC ,I mean with the sucess he had as coach who would fire him logically. He made it easier for BCCI.

No Chappel wasn't immediately after we were dumped out of world cup He stil wanted to continue

But then stories started to emerge how Sachin was unhappy, allegations about Viru and Harbhajan being scared etc.Only then BCCI forced him to hand over resignation.

He survived the Ganguly saga because never did Dravid who is the captain (or Sachin for that matter) went against him during that period.

No it was not renewed. He was just asked to continue till WI series .

Yes it was renewed according to his letter.Even if it was not renewed .They had no choice but to renew his contract due to results India had.

How can they renew his contract while the process for selecting new coach is still on ?

It was an ad hoc arrangement till coach was selected.

No it wasn't renewed by CAC.

They said they will only renew if he sorted out his differences with Kohli.

From PTI

There had been reports that the CAC had okayed Kumble's extension. They had okayed his extension but with a rider. They had said that Kumble should be retained provided all pending issues are resolved," a senior BCCI official, who was present in London during the whole episode, told PTI.

Agreed. When Kumble so much as says the reason for his leaving is the captain not wanting to continue , it's leaking dressing room stuff and throwing mud at the players .

News coming out that the coach was yelling at some players after a loss, displaying authority, salary conversations . This is just "The players putting their side of the story". But then what about the moral science mini lecture that the captain gave about "Dressing Room Sanctity". Gone with the wind?

Wait let me go and delete the tweet that i wrote praising this team early this year !
