For me..it is Kevin by huge margin....

He taught English players ...how to be aggressive and take the fight head-on and give it back....

Before him, the team was filled with mediacore players with piss-poor attitude (baring few players like Marcus Therscothick ) and too much emphasis on technique...

Flintoff comes close but Kevin it is for me....

Cook is all about statistics and Root doesn't have the spine to fight back....

If you consider the quality of runs but not quantity, Kevin is far ahead

Swann, he was the lynchpin behind their rise to number one. When he declined England declined.

Quality spinner, genuine match winner with the ball

The best slip catcher among bowlers I have seen (even better than Anderson)

Handy slogger

Mentor to other spinners

Game awareness, tactics, strategy, handy for the captain

Sorry, Kevin is not an "English" player.  He was formed and shaped as a cricketer in South Africa, and only moved to England after he was pretty much ready for international cricket.

The fact that he chose to use his grandparent's place of birth as a way to chase English pounds, and represent England in test cricket, doesn't make him an "English" player.

To reiterate - its not about his origins - its about where he learned his cricket and built his game - Moeen Ali is an English player, but an Imran Tahir is not South African.

For me, England haven't really had a outstanding player that jumps out - there's a lot of good ones, but not a lot of names that are that great.  And that's reflected by the team's results over the last 15 years.
