We need a language that is common to all of the Indians and Sanskrit fits this very well. We should promote sanskrit and we should have a goal of making it a mainstream language by 2030-40. Only someone with an  inferiority complex can accept English as an national language. People with no self-respect do not deserve a nation, A nation needs to have an Individual identity to Survive and IMO Hinduism is that Identity for Bharat, Tell me can Pakistan survive without Islam?

Language common to all Indians is also English and it's way more practical and realistic to learn. A language does not define self respect. It simply defines the practicality of communication. Hinduism is a relic of the past, just like all other religions.

Sanskrit should be our national Language as  every Bharatiyan language is derived from  Sanskrit. So mix between Nationalism/Rationalism

For the sake of arguement, why Sanskrit? It was the language of the literati/elite.

Why not Prakrit, which was the more commonly spoken version/corruption of Sanskrit?

Can you speak Sanskrit?

Its funny how secularists now have to copy sanghis to make a point. Noticeable in Congress party politics as well, with their new-found discovery of hindu identity.

Besides, i'm not a musalmaan, so Bangladesh is far from my idea of a 'utopia'. Nice country though.

Oh

I'm sorry.

For example, in mumbai, 'Apun ko khujli lagi, vaseline lagaye' is a marathi influenced dialect of hindi, whereas in Delhi, one would say, 'Bchod, khujli lag rahi 'ai, vaseline laiyyo zara'. Both are correct and understandable to their respective parties. Im sure the southies will work out their own version of hindi, and it will further accelerate their progress and integration into mainstream india.

1) I don't think its a solely Marathi influenced 'dialect' of Hindi. Its plain taporispeak. Which is an amalgamation of many languages: Marathi/Gujarati/Hindi/Tamil and English.

2) And thats bad tapori speak and incorrect usage of vaseline  .The tapori way to reply to you would be:

Tereko khujli hai to vaseline kaiku lagarelai. pauli kam hai kya tera? ponds powder laga.

Brah Nations are built on languages (Bangladesh,Catalonia),

Sanskrit Is common ancestor for all the Indian People along with that nation cannot exist without Identity and divided nations are good for Humanity altogether. There are a lot of things which I considered while writing this answer. The rabbit hole goes deep from here.

PS: Sorry for Necromancy

1. Identity always evolves.

2. Sanskrit is a dead language. Our ancestors abandoned it for good reason. Its not like muslims or invaders came and genocided Sanskrit out of our culture. By 300s AD, hardly anything outside of religion and mathematics were written in Sanskrit and by the time 800s AD rolls around, Sanskrit is even more rare, with everything being written in local languages.

3. Nation-states are a dying concept in the globalized world. Right now, pretty much the only job of a nation-state is to project authority of law within its borders. That will be the only feature of nation-state that will survive this century.

Lol, you have answered it yourself. Not knowing Hindi can create some unfair situations. Thus, making Hindi as a national language will address that and increase competitiveness, that's the ultimate aim of education.

why the hell do we need a national language which is absolutely useless from an international perspective and not any better than any of the other 30 languages in the country from a technology perspective?

why not do all governmental business in english for which there far more instructors available everywhere and has no political cost. It also gets the population more competitive from a international commerce stand point  Voila!

Well said. Do we have income tax forms, bank opening forms in English. How about joining some research facility where you will go through research papers in English. How about Science subjects and computer science. Do you have a word for computer and hospital in hindi. How do you say this computer has this much RAM and storage in Hindi. This is ridiculous. Atleast in our languages we have made up words for it even though we dont use it because it is stupid.

This is India not China were you have a small ruling elite who lives in great wealth and ruling the peasants in poverty. What is the word for hospital in hindi - huspeetaal lol. Clearly these hindutvadis cannot think in practical terms. We dont have to reinvent the wheel. Our greatest brains study in English and has to be in English. And the only time the NOrth and South were integrated into one nation was under the British Empire (not the shitty beer). The only common language is English. The sooner people realize this, more succesful this country will be.

Moreover Hindi speakers are from the cowbelt states. The only thing they have is excess population and low literacy rates. So why is it that these people move into other states and ask the natives to speak in their tongue. And hindi is the only language they know. As opposed to the South who has to study their mother tongue, English and Hindi. Why cant the hindi belt get a basic english course if they have to move to other states.

English is taught everywhere here. It's not about English but about the hatred of Hindi. Hindi is a language still most common around and it makes absolute sense for people to learn it. Using Hindi as a weapon to bring Dravidianism, or North vs South debate, is plain stupid.

And your own native country language also brings international strategic advantages. Just ask Putin or even Modi who use it despite knowing English.

I have a tough time making sense of the word salad. that post is worthy of being in the green ghetto.

1) please spell out what international strategic advantage does Hindi have? Don't just say modi uses it. He gave speech in Silicon valley in Hindi. the translator left midway. It was a *ing disaster.

2) By and far English is spoken just as widely as Hindi. Knowing English is far more advantageous than knowing hindi. I sincerely doubt anyone is dumb enough to question that.

In terms of teaching, there are more English teachers all over the country than Hindi teachers. So if the goal is achieve a nationwide common language for interaction and transaction and one that has far easier to implement from a cost standpoint, English fits the requirement to a T.

If the goal is to impose the will of the of the Hindi speakers and accommodate their laziness of not wanting to learn English, Hindi is the way to go.

You are missing the point. It's not English vs Hindi. Your own Indian language itself has a big advantage international and even locally. For local, with Hindi as the common language, it makes total sense to learn it for everybody. Why put your career at disadvantage just to earn some political points? Protesting against Hindi, to bring the Aryan/Dravidian divide & bash North Indians is plain stupid.
