It is not what we all thought he'd  be when he was bamboozling Ponting all  those years ago... but it is a valuable skill and asset in itself. If it means strike bowlers can bowl quick short spells at the other end.

He took just one wicket there also, he is a workhorse who will give 20 overs in a day at reasonable economy rate.He was his captain's goto bowler in last two tests when things were not going well. question is, is there any value to it??

Those are decent numbers no matter how you look at it. He had done well in India earlier and was totally crap overseas. But highlight of this phase of his bowling is that he averages 28.73 overseas.

He had 3 5-fers in first 53 matches and in next 28 he has taken 4.

Problem is how do you assess his contribution.Bumrah has been the most expensive and Bhuvi once ball gets old is not as effective.Shami even though has ended up with most wickets was the least preferred option by his captain and has been mostly absent in first innings.

Ishant by himself will not win you any games but he has his value in a group.

My point is that Ishant is hardly a headache for captain atm.

Once selected he is not a headache. But Ishant is becoming a selection headache, will you select him in playing XI is the question. He was selected ahead of Bhuvi for second test and lot of people have condemned Bhuvi's non selection.

Who was Kohli supposed to drop for second test and who is he supposed to drop to accommodate a spinner?
