how? did he score more than Mayank or scored on A tours?

He did.He scored more in  IPL that probably is the only standardized metrics to go by. Karthick at this stage if he cuts out some of the clumsy crap is a darn good bat. Moreover Karthick is competing with Dhoni not Mayank. I have nothing against mayank but I think there are many who are better.

Karthik is not competing with Dhoni because he is playing as a specialist batsman and not as a keeper batsman..

That in my opinion is a mistake. He should be comepting with Dhoni and that should free up another slot for a pure batsman. As a batsman karthick has not done bad either.

Did he play any 'India A' matches? How was his performance ?

Look at his IPL performance. Look at his body language. His comfort level is very high when he plays. Others look tenative but not karthick.

10 seasons of IPL. Overall average of 25, SR of 125. Strictly middling numbers.

One good season in 2017. All other 9 were either average or poor.

Did you watch any of Agarwal's knocks this season? How was his body language? How was his comfort level?

Honestly, Mayank doesn't look intl....
He looks someone like iyer but with little better technique....most of the times he plays on the up....
He is definetly not a special talent .... So he needs to comes thru the process....which means he has to prove in A tours and deodhar before considered for India...
I wish he wouldn't disappoint us like iyer or pant

Exactly . Half volley pings if . Short ball he plays of back foot . When set and knows track plays some times on up to check drive for 6 ! What’s wrong with that

plus lad pounded ranji and also pounded one days in vijay hazare . Wow stuff in 2 different formats .

Watched him bat and looked very orthodox . Not sure why getting hammered . I can tell you technique looks hundred times better then icf darling pant:phehe:

if he was 21 you all would be jizzing over him . As 27 he is too old and no one interested.

i say this lad needs some games . Let’s have a look . I think is serious threat to pujara number 3 slot in tests .

Oh man.

Then how come Bumrah jump the queue for test selection with hardly bowling for any first class matches over a long period. I’m not against it though

Justification by lying through the teeth; MSK

Could have run for elections

That being said: Agarwal to break into this Indian team is very difficult. Should target the middle order with rahul in the mix

List A average of 48 is few among domestic players whereas Rahul has an LA average of 38 similar to that of manish  pandey

He did score 176 vs Delhi coming one down

Will ind experiment with him coming at 2 down, very difficult

Likes of Rahane and Pandey are ahead of the queue

2017 he peaked. Management was going out of way to screw Dinesh and look at his comfort level scoring two consecutive fours. That takes balls (pun intended).

I saw mayank play for 15 mnts against Saurashtra and I all can say is the best ball they bowled was no better than the worst ball he will see at the next level. That is just to put his 90 in context. I am not putting him down but this premature ejaculations go too far sometime.

Mayank is 27 if not now when? Gotta give break to inform players, this is probably Mayank's best form... but short sighted selecters are ignoring him and will cap him when he's over the hill. Pathetic attitude.

He deserves a break which should come in the form of A tours. I hope he scores century in that. Another oportunity for him is IPL. Rest is all meaningless.

This is my biggest issue with team selections.  I realize it is a tough job to get all in-form players into the team at whatever time, but there are certain opportunities that should not be wasted.  This is one of those.  Nidahas (whatever that is) series.  Weak opposition.  Player in unprecedented, dominating form.  What's the risk?  If you don't want to shake opening pair, send him in 3, 4, 5, whatever and let him have a go.  In some cases, you have to get past the labels (he's an opening bat), rigid rules, queues etc.

On a related note, Agarwal seems to have worked a great deal on his fitness.  He was pudgy a few years ago.  Looks athletic in recent pics.

Well, it *is* different for fast bowlers because they are at a premium.  There is a glut of batsmen in India.

But, in this particular case, it makes sense to get him in for Nidahas.
