Terrific performance from Bumrah.

Bowling in Test matches had screwed up his lengths and it took him some time to hit top gear in this format :hatsoff:

He was nowhere near the top wicket taker due to lack of enough wicket taking ability this IPL season. Today he took 3. His best wicket haul of this IPL. Should ball same way rather than what he was bowling in previous matches.

Next is RR who are also equally bad like Punjab and rely on one batsman. Should use the opportunity to pick wickets in bulk.

Most players, whose priority is performing for their country,  don't go all out in franchise-based cricket.

Exceptions are players whose national team spots are in doubt, like Rahul in LOIs.

Why is it an either/or?

Can't a player give his best at both franchise cricket and for his country.

Nope. For example take Dhoni. He shows so much emotions and intent when playing for chuskis. When was the last time he did that while donning the blue? 2012?

Because human ability is limited.

It is difficult to maintain intensity over a large period of time... not to mention staying physically fit.

You must have played the game. I'm sure you know better than I, an occasional spectator. But still, I find this a little difficult to digest. He has to bowl only 4 overs. How much of a toll would that even take?

Its not like Bumrah runs all around while fielding.

It is more about mental intensity. You have to pick and choose your battles.  Smart guys do what is needed to avoid mental burnout.

Look at Kohli.  Has done much better for India than his franchise except year 2016 ( when he was in superlative form and also sensed the possibility of taking over LOI captaincy from MSD if his team did well  )

Bumrah said how hard he is working, how clearly he is thinking and how rigorously he is concentrating on basics to succeed. He also mentioned some times it works sometime it does not. He is there to succeed not play for the sake of it.

Last year he was third highest wicket taker. This year he is fourth highest wicket taker. It shows he is making every attempt to be in the top wicket takers column every year.

Bumrah has the ability to be the highest wicket-taker, maybe even by a margin, as he plays all the games.

His performance is picking up at the business end of the tournament.

As the legendary Ajit would say,  Bumrah is a  " Smart bnaye ( boy ) "

With experience i think he will be able to give performances like those  of Bhuv, Tye, Narine, Rashid and other T20 great bowlers of IPL .

Also as far as T20i is concerned hope someday he will break into top 5 ICC T20 bowling rankings as well. Currently he is 11th.
