“Cricket Australia as an organisation knows what it takes and whilst I’ve heard a few times this team looks like it hasn’t got a plan or doesn’t know where it’s going, we’ve got a clear direction, we know where we’re going.

“We know we’re a long way off the mark at the moment but the World Cup is not for 12 months. We know when we get our best team on the park, when we’re playing our best cricket we’re going to be right in the thick of it,” he said.

Paine defended the Australian ODI side that consisted of the likes of Smith and Warner but still lost 1-4 to England at home.

“There was a lot of guys who were extremely tired at the end of the Ashes. England had a massive changeover of players after the Tests and we went in with very much the same cattle and guys were pretty tired. We didn’t play well in that series either.

“Before that, there was a series in India and they’re never easy to win for anyone, particularly over there. But this organisation and a number of people in it have peaked at the right time, a number of times. I think we’re going to build slowly to try and do that again,” the current Australian captain added.

Even in 1987 a **** Australia stunned the world. Only a fool will write off their chances, the only team that will give me jitters in KO matches. If 5 time World Champs play their best cricket they are clear favorites, if they play rubbish cricket they will either be runners up or lose to the eventual winners in SF.

Not a bad side,if everyone is fit

More than the personnel it is the mental toughness which sets them apart, Eng/India/SA OTOH will be mentally vulnerable. Aus won't choke, it will require some team to give an ATG performance to knock them out.

Once warner and Smith are back they will become pretty dangerous side to be honest .

you overrrate them,i was surprised how many people overrated our win against them in 2011, ffs only capable side they defated in that WC was NZ

they were great in WCs circa 96-2007, because of bonafide great sides and in 2015 they had the best balance at home

again in next world cup if their stars are fit , they will be one of contenders but it will not take any ATG peformance to kick them out or something, they are as vulnerable as any other outfit

I am hoping the pitches are more similar to CT 2013 for WC 2019. There was good help for the spinners, which was why Jadeja topped the wickets column.

If there are flatter pitches, Australia will be favorites.
