India losing momentum as a series/tournament progresses

England the ODIs we won first one easily before falling away

 

Asia cup we thumped everybody initially before barely crossing the line against BD after drawing v Afghanistan

 

WI Won first easily, scrapped a draw and now a loss.....

 

What I wanted to ask is, this loss of focus or edge is it a mental thing that you take things for granted and lose your edge? Or is it that sides work out India's flaws after the first game and act accordingly?

I think it is bit of both, see teams have realized that in batting India depends heavily on top 3 and attack them accordingly also in bowling the ineptness of bhuvneshwar Kumar has put pressure on bumrah ,plus chahal has not been Effective in this series as one would have hoped, so  teams consistently puts pressure on top 3 and know that if they can nip them even at 200 the rest will fold like pack of cards and they are attacking bhuvi and 3rd seamer and respecting kuldeep while occasionally attacking chahal

The top 3 are always saving India the blues.But the problem is that middle order is so inept, it can't stand up when the top 3 succumb early.

 

Rayuddu, Dhoni are not the solution for the middle order.

I hope it's not too late to replace them.

 

Rahul , Pant , Pandya can make a good middle order.

 

Krunal, Gowtam, Gopal, Shankar can be tried as batting all-rounders.

 

Jadhav has huge fitness issues, else he can be the no 5 for the time being

As a series progresses, the opposition batsmen start reading Kuldeep better. And he no longer remains a mystery spinner.  English batsmen attacked Kuldeep from 2nd match onward.  And that's where we start losing the momentum.  Chahal has always been mediocre.  Our middle order being fragile compounds the problem.   Unless grey beard deadweight like Dhoni are shown the door, the situation will not improve. TM has to start plugging the loopholes sooner rather than later.

the kuldeep thing certainly seems to be true....

 

would be interesting to see his stats deeper into the series.

This. Expect dhawan to get back amd thumping in the next few games. But india has a pace bowling and middle order problem. Of spinners are gett9ng hit suddenly they cant restrict opposition.

As many have identified,  we are dependent on the top 3, who are likely to play good innings 33-50% of the time so we appear to lose edge in many of the other games .... Other batsmen have to pick the ball up too (and one of the reasons for the ball not being picked up is that TTFs have been rotated) .... Bowling too is Bumrah+Kuldeep dependent
