With 4 outfielders.  And watch him rip apart teams with his street-smart gap hitting.  Been saying this for more than a year now.  He's not a power hitter, but a gap hitter.

This team is structuring batting order and selections based on non-merit considerations, resulting in a pathetic pattern of chronic under-achievement.  Kuptaan Wrogn owns this.  He can't pass the buck.

Jadhav is better at the lower order right now b/c he has a naturally high SR.

We gave him a short shot at 4 and he didn't as good. At 6 he can play his natural game of shots right away. Ideally He, Chota Pandya, and Mota Pandya would be our finishing combo

Exactly. They want him to play like a finisher but he's more suited in the middle overs and India needs that too right now.

He is not a finisher. This is his best shot. His fitness cannot last more than 10 overs at best. So last 5 overs are his best bet.

Respect that he somehow contributed but bang average player.

how long he will last :((

Look at his FC List A numbers.  The guy has demonstrated the capacity to bat big, and at a high SR.  If he can stay fit, he should have been our #4 already.

Rohit

Dhawan

Kohli

Jadhav

Rayudu (Ambatli at #4 if the 3rd wicket falls before the 24th over or so)

Pant

Pandya

There's the top 7 that can give you 10-14 overs with the ball, 2 lefty batsmen, and 2 legit power hitters in the lower order.

Lol if Jadhav comes in the middle overs, it is bad news

Yeah, yeah, he doesn't have "x-factor" in your opinion.  How are Jermaine Blackwood and Ben Duckett doing these days.

How many innings was he given at #4?

Pandya Sr has to force his way into the team in place of Jadhav, but he has to demonstrate his batting class.  #5/6 batsman in the Indian team has to be more than a guy who can hit for power and play a few cameos.

Think about his batting style - he is a batsman with weak power, who somehow finds a way to hit gap boundaries with 5 outfielders at the death.  He is likely to be more effective in finding boundaries with one fewer outfielder.

The Indian team is great if Plan A (one of top 3 going big).  But we are not at all good in run scoring in overs 25-40.  Even when we get decent starts.  The team prefers to play it safe and starts batting with aggression only after the 42nd over or so.  Injecting some momentum into the innings around the 30 over mark would have a ripple effect on the team's overall total.

He's scored big runs in both List A and first-class cricket batting at 4 and 5 while striking at better than run a ball. Whether or not he stays till the end, he puts the team in a good position going into the last few overs.

His fitness is not intternational standard. Make him run with guys like Kohli,Rohit or even Dhoni he will he cooked in 5-6 overs.

He is a good utility cricketer. Better than Pandey etc but still mediocre.

No.4 or No.5 is a guy who can bat long and can rotate strike. His role of coming in and throwing his bat around is perfect for him

Cricinfo says

4th position 2017-2017 3 3 1 18 12 9.00 36 50.00 0 0 0 2 0 view innings
5th position 2017-2017 6 6 0 196 67 32.66 226 86.72 0 2 1 21 2 view innings
6th position 2014-2018 17 17 7 615 120 61.50 521 118.04 2 1 0 62 14 view innings
7th position 2015-2018 5 5 2 55 25* 18.33 36 152.77 0 0 1 6 1

So 3 innings at 4 and 6 at 5...

His SR is much better at 6/7, going almost 120

Sample set size is shyite.  Stop misunderstanding statistics to fit your confirmation bias...

Think back to how Veeru - a lowe middle order allrounder who was supposed to be a guy who gave you 6-8 overs every game, was made an opener, because his batting style was a good fit.  How Brohit was given the opportunity to open.  That's how quality teams get the most out of their player resources.

But if you are playing games with selection, instead of being focused on improvement and making the team stronger, you can always justify crap decisions with nonsense.

I am not sure if this deserves a response but being the better man, I will say Rayudu is not the option either which I have said a bazillion Times. Move out from living under a rock.

Jadhav is a hardworking cricketer but neither are his skills or fitness belong at this level.

Fitness issues, sure.  Major question mark there.  But skill? That's bias. He's the only middle order batsman giving you consistent part-time bowling, even wickets. He's proven himself capable with the bat, delivering reasonable run production in low probability scenario.  His batting method is exceptionally well suited to bat in the middle overs with the fewer outfielders.  You can make a reasonable argument on the fitness question.  The rest is all bias and muddled thinking.

Edit:  Props on taking the high road - regrettable off the cuff remark there.

He had a 200 run partnership with Kohli in a ODI against England last year where he scored 120 off 76 balls.

That’s the only knock of substance he has had in his international career. So far his bowling is what has saved him. If you take him as a pure batsman he has been poor. Not good against pace.

He scored 90 off 75 in another ODI in that same series, albeit in a losing cause.
