Some lovely hits middle of the bat from whatever is seen in this clip. Impressive thing is when he decides to play ground shots he does hits the ball, the first bounce of ball being within the wicket - which means he has better survival chances while playing strokes even in test matches. There was no ball which bounced anywhere near the fielders in inner circle.

 

Also, whenever he did attempt shots in air, they bounced far away from fielders on boundary which means that he can place the ball well in the deep. So he can exploit the restrictions of the fielders allowed in out-field well without being caught more often than not. This ability will also help him in playing the release shots (4's) whenever there could be few dot balls.

 

His footwork and body ballance appears to be good. At least it seemed so in the clip.

Also, he over shadowed Kohli in that partnership, which hasn't happened for a long time.

 

He has rescued the team twice already from collapses in his limited ODI tenure.

Didn't watch even one ball of the match. So i take what i am reading. Outplaying Kohli in a partnership, especially on a day Kohli scored 100 is very impressive.

Unfortunate way to be a run-out but it was his mistake. The players do take unwarranted risks by moving out of the crease as soon as ball is delviered. If it was a pace bowler he would have survived as the ball would have lost pace many metres away from bowling crease. Zampa got a hand onto it very enar the bowling crease being a spinner. So the ball travelled faster to the stumps in this case.

It was great that Shankar got run out. Why?

Because this mistake is a learning experience for him away from the WC. He wont be doing that again.

 

Our players need to make some mistakes and get some crap out of their system before the WC.

If Kohli and TM had any brains they would play Shankar at no.4 for rest of this tournament.
