We haven't tried out the likes of Saini, Siraj, Rajpoot, Mavi, Avesh etc and it will be crazy to directly take them to a pressure cooker tournament. Kaul, Unadkut, Dhawal, Khaleel etc are bang mediocre. Is there any other option? Umesh and Ishant have to be in the scheme of things, they won't start in the 1st XI but as 4th quick? @express bowling, @Rightarmfast your thoughts? From 2015 till now he hasnt progressed, Aus pitches worked in his favour as it has more pace n bounce but eng pitches wud be diff . The only thing he is good at it is his fielding in Deep . Think twice before taking a bowler who cant bowl acc to his field Edited March 23, 2019 by Ankit_sharma03 Switchblade 1 Link to comment
kubrickian
Umesh Yadav should never be part of ODI setup because of how wayward he is. But the fact he got so many chances in the recent past shows the lack of fast bowling options we have. Siddharth Kaul, Deepak Chahar are no better. Link to comment

Ideally, I would have liked us to get ready new quicks like Saini and Rajpoot for this WC. Since that has not been done, we would forced to choose between Umesh and Khaleel as the 4th specislist fast bowler. Mosher 1 Link to comment

Moochad
WC 2015 was a long time ago. Umesh was our top wickettaker there, but 4 yrs is a long time. He has lost pace since then. Also, Australia is tailor-made for fast bowlers like Umesh, who are lacking in the control department because of the larger ground sizes. Even though their drop-in pitches were roads, the large grounds allowed our fielders to contain his run leakage somewhat. That allowed his wicket-taking to be accentuated. England has roads and smaller grounds compared to Australia, so he will be less effective there, unless there is swing. He can be in the squad as a backup only because we haven't developed the other bowlers thus far. Link to comment

When alternatives are Kaul, Unadkut, Dhawal, Khaleel etc....I prefer Umesh/Ishant in 4th pace bowler's slot Yes he was the 3rd highest wkt taker in that WC ,maybe wants to cash in that point to get a WC slot . The way he bowls nowadays,He aont the 4th bowler, more like the 40th bowler Link to comment
