Mental block against England this decade, yesterday was just a manifestation

Our bogey team of the 2010s. Started in Chinnaswamy WC group match which they tied after we posted 338. Maximum beatings in red ball cricket which started in 2011 away series, apart from the 2016 home series it has been a one way show. Our only other major success was the 2013 CT final. 

 

Feel like our players are overawed when they see the Poms, even if the gulf in ability isn't huge they tend to get deflated before the first ball is bowled. Pathetic body language, no fighting spirit, some *ing complex. Even with the Sky experts/commies you see our players acting timid, begging for approval.... Our inferior teams showed more spine against ATG WI/Aus....the England team of this decade is nowhere near being a fearsome team. Hell this same Indian team shows more aggression, guts, confidence against the Aussies !!!

 

Worst thing is we have surrendered meekly, prematurely against Poms in the last 3 completed ODIs. Started in the 2nd ODI of 2018 series where we (mainly Dhoni, Raina) inexplicably aborted the run chase, even boos by the crowd couldn't get beghairat Dhoni interested. Then another surrender in the series decider, y'day we didn't even try to win after the fall of Pant. We have lost our share of matches in the past but 3 back to back premature surrenders, that's a first. The gulf in quality isn't that big, surely our players have a mental block when they see England, mentally lose before the actual battle. We fear the English cricket team and that is why we see this kind of nonsense. There would have been more honor in being 290 all out in 45 overs yesterday than playing like an associate team (except Scotland before @Tattieboy loses his mind). Where is the psychologist or mental coach? Remember us having Paddy Upton in 2011 WC, we even roped in the services of that famous explorer cum motivational speaker (Mike Horn, he got lots of praise from our then players)....can't a rich board like BCCI hire such people for mental conditioning of our players? 

 

Australia will always be the team to beat in WC KOs, but if we are scared of England...not helping things.

@Tattieboy a bit of help from Scots will go a long way. England is the common enemy ...let us unite under the banners of William Wallace and Netaji Bose to bring the evil down .

They are our bogey team in Tests. Not in ODIs. We won the all important CT Final in their backyard and also beat them in the away series in 2014. The rest of the games have mostly been home-dominated affairs.

Yeah acknowledge that. But the 2013 CT was a 20 over affair where we played rubbish, they played worse, overall a pathetic quality contest albeit nerve-wracking. And our most underrated win in recent times, special credit to our bowling unit that day.  

 

I am not talking just about the results, more about the mindset when we face them. 3 consecutive ODIs we haven't even tried to win, that doesn't happen against other teams.

We were trying albeit rather poorly up until Pant and Pandya were around. The game was done when Pandya got out. The previous 2 games were notorious Dhoni disasterclasses IIRC. Do we see a pattern here?

 

Regardless I think we have a decent enough chance against them if we bat first in the KO.

More often than not it has something to do with our rotten middle order ,washed out Dhoni,Jadhav hold all important positions in our line up, I still maintain we have an ATG top 3 ,we just needed two guys who could rotate strike ,Imagine a blazing dhoni,jadhav yesterday,they would have got us to victory,seems one guy who has huge huge influence on team doesn't want to spoil his batting avg by going after bowling as long as he can drag his intl career,till the time he will torture with his batting at a crawling pace

They are the only team who will decimate our spin twins so I think it's quite evident now that we cannot play both against them.

BCCI could certainly hire whoever they wish to. It's just that they are too obsessed with filling their own pockets, etc. and indulging in short-term planning.

 

Aus is another bogey team of ours in WC KOs (apart from 2011). On the one hand, I don't want us to face either Eng or Aus in SFs. On the other, it would be interesting to have an opposition batsman teach Bratman how to score in KO matches.

I said it months ago on here if a flat track, sunny day then India must go toe to toe with England . If not those conditions then India will win .

There is a reason why Scotland and Pakistan beat England . Scotland's coach that day is now Pakistan's number 2  he had England's number and a strategy how to beat them .
