vvvslaxman Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 How are we going to play slow ball? LIttle dink, paddle sweep, reverse sweep, or charge down the wicket? India has to find a way to cope up with slower ball. Trying to hit the slower ball straight down the wicket is the riskiest choice. I would want our players playing late cut, fine glance and mess up their line. Pandya's helplessly tried to hit every slower ball down the ground. Nothing was timed well. It is high time he finds another way. Atleast do a ramp like DK or reverse paddle like Pant.

You will get caught on short third or short fine. There is a reason captains keep third man and fine leg up for slower balls. there is no pace to work with. It also depends on line of the ball. Hitting down ground, mid wicket or cover is the best option. But the problem yesterday was slower balls started sticking on the pitch and they were back of length slower balls. You should be good. Second thing is standing deep in the crease means slower ball will become even slower. This is why Pandya struggles. He should stay outside the crease. Watch Nidahas trophy batting by KKD. First ball he stood way outside the crease. then he stood way inside, then he stood somewhere in the middle. You use depth of your crease to counter slower balls. You cannot stand deep int he crease and try to play everything. You can only counter yorkers and bouncers at normal speed from there.

Nidahas, it was Soumya Sarkar who not bowling cutters but his normal deliveries at 120. While had to contend with 140, 150 kph bowlers. You can't predmeditate against bowlers who can bowl at that pace. The biggest problem was back of length slower cutters were sticking on the pitch. Switchblade 1

The ball that DK ramped for 4 to fine leg was clocking 143k from Rubel Hussain. BEsides this is not the first time Pandya struggled against slower balls. Pretty much in every innings he played, he couldn't time slower ball. Blaming pitch is the easy way out. You have to adjust your stance to counter it. When you are in a situation where you need quick runs find alternate way. It was painful to watch him smashing 3 balls in a row to long off with no real timing.
Amit228 Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 Stay put on crease.. don't premeditate... Expect every ball to be a slower ball.. slower ball beomes lethal when u are expecting it least.. however if u plan accordingly without any premeditation.. these slowers length balls can be deposited in stands.. for god sake.. slower ball isn't any lethal compared to yorker.. it is just an innocuous juicy slow length ball.. what perturbed me is to find indian batsmen specially dhoni, jhadhav nd hardik (in late part of his innings) were struggling to hack a few.. jhadhav nd dhoni we can comprehend.. they just don't evoke any confidence.. however Hardik case worries me.. going further into worldcup team can a cue from english bowlers nd plan accordingly for hardik.. now onus lies on Hardik to find a solution nevada 1
CG Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 England planned it perfectly they bowled back of length offcutters on a slow pitch where it was difficult to pull to the side where Boundary was 80mt. Frustrated 1

mishra Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 (edited) Analyse the pattern. Analyse the bowlers grip. Analyse the arm movement and wrist position. pick it early. Defend pacy one. If 50% are slow ones, there is big chance to hit it beyond ropes if you are prepared to defend. Edited July 2, 2019 by mishra
