Those are things you never forget. That was so disastrous that I stopped watching cricket until ICC knockout trophy when new group of players emerged like Zak and Yuvraj. Gagnuly was responsible for helping the team rise from the ashes. I didn't watch the Asia cup and the Sharjah cup in 2000 where we were bowled out for 50 odd against SL. We even struggled against ZIM and Andy Flower those days. We narrowly won the ODI series 3-2 with Yuvi playing great innings back to back after we were 1-2 down to them. Those were the times.

What happened in the ODI series that followed this was stuff of nightmares that needs therapy . Blanked 1-7 in 8 games against world champions australia and arch rivals pakistan was utter humiliation. In that series, I remember MSK opening against the great Mcgrath and Fleming. Lambs to the slaughter

I don't think other than Sachin I have seen any other play that shot. Most sub continent players don't have backfoot game thru offside. Nope. I have seen him play that many times post tennis-elbow injury. The ones that come to my mind right away were during the NZ tour in 2009.
vvvslaxman Posted January 3, 2020 Author Posted January 3, 2020 About the umpiring in Australia, Tendulkar got this shocker from Bucknor lol Right at the start of the video.

Sachin's backfoot punch thru extra cover was special becuase he played that shot on a bouncy Perth wicket in 1992.Playing the same shot on a pitch which has low bounce wicket is not that great many players do it. 2009 shot you are talking is played by many players.

He always got shockers from *nor, that guy likely had a beef with him for some reason just as the Aussie Harper (or Hair?)

Austin 3:!6 Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Remember this match very well. There was hype around him even before his debut that an Akhtar like fast bowler is debuting for Australia. It was a brilliant debut for him but tbh our team was absolutely garbage. It was all about Tendulkar and bit contribution from Ganguly/Dravid, rest were aweful cricketers.
