Some bowling. Our selector MSK Prasad was bowled by a fast full toss from Bret Lee .  3 wickets in one over by Brett Lee. Sir Aggy's duckatahan series as well.

He wed clocking 151 and suddenly reduced it to 101 !!

Even this weak Indian team had Australia at 5/100-odd in the 1st test.  And then it went completely downhill.  The shoulder-before-wicket lbw was also given this series I think.

But for bad umpiring India missed many opportunities in Australia over the years. Back in the 80s Australia and Paksitan were notorious for extremely biased umpiring.

Even the 2003 series - lots of legbefores not given againsts Hayden and Langer that would be out today with DRS.

I do feel bad for some of our players in this game who were facing 120k bowlers in domestic n then straigh away brett lee on such pitches

This series SRT would have scored a lot more if he was not given out unfairly at least 3 times. He was the lone man standing against a world class bowling attack.

 

I just don’t understand why with his technique (probably the best I have seen), he did not come out head and shoulders above his peers.

The only reasons I can think why Sachin did not end up with superior stats is he never learnt the art of scoring big hundreds in tests.He should have played Ranji atleast one full season.

Second he was too impetious and tried to dominate the bowlers when all he needed was stay at the crease.

 

Lara lost his way after he got his fame and WI was going in wrong direction as a team that did not help Lara either.Both were great players who should have done more with their talents.

He had a better temperament in tests towards the second half of his career (post 2006), but I guess at that age his eyes and reflexes were not as strong as pre 2003.

 

It’s a bit early to tell, but looking at Steve Smith it is obvious that balance and had/eye coordination is probably more important than a classical technique. There appears to be a big gap between him and the rest. It remains to be seen how his career ends. Like most Aussies, he won’t hang around as soon as his reflexes decline. That is another grave mistake that SRT committed by hanging around well past due date. His test average was almost 57 before the England tour of 2011.

At his very very peak he did not have many test series BCCI botched it up big time. India hardly played any Test matches in the 90s. Reason why he was successful because he had an excellent backfoot game.

Yep, I wish the Indian team was stronger overall during his peak. The backfoot game is something very unique to him. I do not think I have seen very many modern batsmen having the ability to drive off the backfoot through the off. In that sense, he was really special and something that Kohli does not have. He should work towards adding that to his arsenal. I see him stretching hard on his front foot to contact the ball away from the off stump and nicking to the slips.

If Kohli wants to become impenetrable he should develop his backfoot game through off side. RIght now he stands a yard or two outside and trying to take everything on the front foot. Once the reflex slows down you will be needing time to play those shots. Once he settles down it doesn't matter what you bowl. But when he is early he gets succumbed to channel bowling around off. He has so many ducks in his career.

Yes & the rest of the world, Ponting pre & post infinite Oz was a different player. Now you'll say that batters take time to develop sure but his stats at Oz's peak vs non peak years are unreal. Shows the class to which Lara & SRT belonged to, I'd say if he played in today's Indian team he'd avg close to 60 if not more, also if you see his peak years the *in BCCI played single digits matches & that included lots of away tours 

 

There is simply no competition to him from any of the Indian batters, except of course SMG

You guys thought the test series was a disaster??. haha. What happened in the ODI series that followed this was stuff of nightmares that needs therapy . Blanked 1-7 in 8 games against world champions australia and arch rivals pakistan was utter humiliation.

I still remember in one of the promos or interviews sunil gavaskar (with an unimpressed demeanor)saying india has two players who could play at this level in ODI's tendulkar and ganguly. Those are things you never forget.

I remember this series....use to wakeup early in cold to watch this series - tendulkar gave hope and beyond that it was all disastor. Waking up every mornings to disastor . The meme - ye dukh kahe khatam nahin hota perfectly describes the watching cricket exp of indian fan

It was early Sachin before his elbow injury who had that shot.that is very hard shot to play on the back foot and you are better off playing cut shot. I don't think other than Sachin I have seen any other play that shot.

 

Most sub continent players don't have backfoot game thru offside.
