DomainK
I think these days the match referees take over rates very seriously. If I am not wrong, I think there are provisions of even banning a captain for a match if the slow over rate has a direct bearing on the result of the game. Link to comment

DomainK
What does Will Smith has to do with south african slow over-rates!!! Bolwing a negavtive strategy is suggestive of alien thinking. He has to come with Agent K and investigate. Then he will have to make provisions to send Smith back to Mars. Link to comment
Donny
Will he? Deliberately denying India a chance to post a win. What mind boggling hyprocricy !! Anil Kumble presided over the first session of this Test match. India completed 25 overs. With the extra drinks break, we can say 26 overs. Although that's about par for the course, these days, it doesn't usually include 12 overs of spin! AK set the tone. Smith followed. Both captains should be fined - heavily. Link to comment
King
I don't think anyone's going to be bothered about the over rate in this test match given the conditions and nature of the pitch. Link to comment

Chandan
India v South Africa, 1st Test, Chennai South Africa fined for slow over-rate Cricinfo staff March 31, 2008 South Africa have been fined for their slow over-rate in the first Test against India in Chennai. Roshan Mahanama, the match referee, found the side was two overs short of its target after time allowances were taken in to consideration. On day three South Africa managed only 85 overs as India pushed to gain a first-innings lead. It was the day Virender Sehwag raced to the fastest Test triple-hundred, his second in 55 Tests. According to ICC Code of Conduct players are fined 5% of their match fees for every over lost while captain is fined double of that. Consequently South African players lost 10% of their match fees and Graeme Smith lost 20%. The team cannot appeal the fine. After a dull draw in the first Test the two sides now move on to Ahmedabad for the second one starting on April 3. ------------------------------------------------------------- I'm not quite satisfied. We lost about 12 overs because of SA's slow over rate. Should this much of fine be enough? Link to comment

Bottom line - India were par on the over rate and South Africa were not and were rightly fined. Link to comment
