Pakistan has surprisingly risen to become Asia’s best-performing stock market and the fourth-best performer in the world, defying the odds amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Benchmark index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange, KSE-100, is up nearly six percent from the beginning of August. The market has also enjoyed double-digit returns, rising nearly 50 percent after a steep fall in March and up over 41 percent year-on-year.

Pakistan equities are far better than those trading on other bourses in Asia. While just a few Chinese indices have surpassed KSE-100 performance on an annual basis, they are still behind this month.

WTH ? This is some kind of achievement ?

Only if you are too stupid to understand how investing works.

Unaudited stock exchange.

Owned by Fraudy Chinese.

Trading not fully digitized/tech controlled.

Third world basketcase run by crony frauds with little or no financial fraud compliance or enforcement.

Result = trash stocks vulnerable to decades old pump & dump schemes, ponzi schemes, money laundering etc - "returns" will be great as long as you don't worry about the currency rate, and 'know' the right people.  And that too only over short cherry picked slices of time.

If there were legit companies behind the "rising" exchange, where are  they?  The answer is 'Axact'.

Here's a line in the article that OP himself provides:

The surprisingly outstanding performance of the Karachi bourse comes just one year after Bloomberg called it the world’s worst stock market after its stocks erased more than half of their combined market value.

Well considering the amount of borrowed money & borrowed goodwill this is the least they can do!

If you think about it, Entire country of Pakistan is a victim of identity theft.  PaKMil mafia keep taking on more and more loans in the name of the 'country', and reward themselves handsomely, flats in Dubai, Farmhouse in Lahore, "villa" in 'Bahria township' etc etc, while Pakistanis are stuck with the IMF bailouts and all kinds of hell to pay.

They are slaves and don't even know it.
