Final goal should be 16 teams in next 5 years with four months of cricket.

Part of the league should be played in UAE and other middle east places as they have been supportive.

Play few games in BD and SL and also get there players.

Long term need to get PAK players but no bilaterals.

Need to find way to stop Indian TV market money subsidizing rest of the world.

With so much poverty in Inida IPL is the best venue for keeping Indian money in India.

You do bring a good point. I am in favor of SL and UAE but not BD. This is a good model to go by.

Of course international expansion is secondary to domestic expansion, but it would really strengthen the IPL.  BBL is already in talks with NZ to add them in.  

 

I do not expect the arrogant, short-sighted, BCCI babus to act on this, at least not for donkey's years.

Interesting Idea, but I feel it won't be economically beneficial for BCCI to add teams from subcontinent. They might end up making a big loss. 

 

AUS-NZ have a totally different equation. Here there are lot of political issues between the boards and the govts themselves. Also, BD & SL would be more demanding. BCCI won't like to get into that mess.

They are Babus and will never do a thing till they are forced to.

Not all moves are made with immediate profit motives in mind.  This would strengthen BCCI's hand in ICC board room immeasurably.  SL already votes along BCCI lines because we keep giving them repeated India-SL white ball games to host and earn money.  We cannot keep doing that in the future with a shrinking calendar, not as much as we used to anyway.  And UAE is an up and coming associate that is always going to be decently funded and could well become another Afghanistan few years down the road.  As the IPL inevitably expands it will need to occupy and monopolize increasing amounts of time on the annual cricket calendar.  This move would not only make the IPL a more valuable international brand, would also entrench long-term consistent support for it at the ICC from boards other than India.  Sure BCCI is rich enough and strong enough to just do what we want.  But it is much better for the IPL to grow with ICC 'approval' (willing or grudging) than in open hostility with it.  

 

IPL does depend on top international players being available - which is something the other boards have some level of control on.  The current status quo is such that the IPL player salaries are a strong enough incentive for players to push their own boards into allowing for the "IPL window".  You want to preserve that unique advantage well into the future.

Could be an overkill.

 

Two more teams OTOH will mean stronger teams not allowed to bench many good players. Quality will not suffer as many benched and unsold players will get in. More players from NZ, SA, WI, BD, Afg will make the league even more diverse in addition to creating more opportunities for our youngsters.
