Ganguly still shud be ahead

 

• 1999 WC as player
• 2000 CT final Lost
• 2002 CT final shared- (got lucky or else winning against lanka in lanka while chasing....hahaha)
• 2003 final Loss
• 2004 CT - didnt even go to 2nd round or semi whatever it was

Ganguly had a much worse team. India was rarely consistently top 3 under Ganguly because India did not have a competitive seaming line up. Australia and South Africa were always miles ahead. Pakistan and Sri Lanka were varying equivalent or better. West Indies was capable of springing surprises and unbearable at home. And towards the latter half of his career England got good as well. 
 

Under Kohli India has been in the top 2 consistently on the basis of talent alone. South Africa, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and the Windies have basically declined out of contention. Australia is still very good but not close to the Australia of Ganguly’s days. England has improved greatly and so has New Zealand, but none of those teams come close to the dominance the Australian and South African teams demonstrated.
