MMS and PVNR allowed FDI in India because we were 2-3 weeks away from an empty treasury and couldn't make our international payments on the huge amounts of loans taken from the IMF and other banking institutions - let alone make our payments for imports of essentials such as oil and gas. This was not some vision based exercise to improve India's economy... it was done because there was no alternative. The Gandhis and Nehru family had brought India to the verge of actual bankruptcy. bharathh Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 MMS and the UPA 1 and 2 govts tried to repeat the situation from 2004-2014. Our national and cooperative banks are still reeling from the thievery enabled by the MMS govts. Huge loans were taken again by MMS' govt - esp Chidambaram - to give the illusion that all was well. Our current account deficit was ballooning out of control. One more term of a Congress led/3rd front govt and we will get there very quickly again. coffee_rules 1
