Tokyo Olympics: WFI suspends Vinesh Phogat for indiscipline, notice issued to Sonam for misconduct

She also did not wear the name of the official sponsors of the Indian contingent, Shiv Naresh, and chose to wear a Nike singlet during her bouts.

"This is gross indiscipline. She has been suspended temporarily and barred from all wrestling activities. She can't compete in any national or other domestic event until she files a reply and WFI takes a final decision," a WFI source told PTI.

"WFI was pulled up by IOA why can't they control their athletes. IOA is issuing a notice to WFI in this regard," the source added.

The officials who were in Tokyo told PTI that Vinesh had created ruckus when she was allotted a room near those of her Indian team-mates -- Sonam, Anshu Malik and Seema Bisla -- arguing that she might contract coronavirus since these wrestlers travelled to Tokyo from India.

"She did not train with any of the Indian wrestlers. It appeared as if she had come with the Hungary team and had nothing to do with the Indian contingent.

"One day her timing clashed with the training timings of the Indian girls and she chose not to train at the same arena with them," the official added.

"This is not acceptable. This is not how senior wrestlers are supposed to behave."

Vinesh had entered the Games as a top medal contender but ended up suffering defeat by fall against Belarus' Vanesa. The 19-year old Sonam has been given a notice for misconduct.

"These kids think, they have become star wrestlers and are entitled to do anything. Before leaving for Tokyo either Sonam or her family are supposed to collect their passport from the WFI office.

"But she ordered SAI officials to collect on her behalf. This is not acceptable. They have achieved nothing and are showing attitude. This will not be accepted," the official added.

What a terrible tragedy. WFI acting like true dictators

I'll never ever trust anything these unnamed federation jokers say. Most likely she wouldn't have been respectful to some federation officials and is now facing consequences.

WFI doesn't need to tell these things.

Everything else is debatable and WFI can be wrong in all aspects, but refusing to wear sponsors name - can that be justified? They paid money to get their names.

Wait for the other side of the story. These egoist and arrogant officials can stoop to any level.

They have given notice to another wrestler Sonam Malik. Her crime - she asked a SAI official to collect her passport from the federation office and didn't go herself or send a family member.

Does this part even require a story?

This is the part concerns is the official accepting it is ok for star players to do it. They busy practicing for the game how difficult is it for these guys to deliver passport.  Countries these days get athletes from other countries to play for them they move heaven and earth and these guys can’t deliver a passport.

As I said, wait to hear the other side of the story. The federation first attacked her coach and has now taken action against her. Knowing these corrupt jokers, fully expecting some money angle or some official's misconduct to be at play.

Why do you think in such black and white? Officials as well as players both can have egos. Both can have faults.

Because our sports officials are mostly inept, arrogant and corrupt fools who treat players abd coaches, including even highly successful ones, as slaves. All these are tricks to show how interested they are in the sports.

Remember these same Wrestling federation jokers criticised sponsors like JSW, OGQ and even TOPS scheme. All because they would prefer the funds to flow through them and not go directly to the athletes.

Ok, they are corrupt, inept and arrogant and whatever they claim could be false.

But why there has to be other side of story behind refuse official sponsor?

Basically this. Both WFI and players could be at fault here.

Issues with fit, size, comfort - there could be multiple reasons.

BTW Neeraj Chopra was wearing a Nike logo on his waist belt and Nike boots.

On official sponsors, I wonder why Puma hasn't dragged our 'official sponsor' to courts for copying its logo.

Check for Shiv Naresh's logo and compare it to Puma. Nothing but a cheap imitation. Wonder how and why they got to be official sponsors.

For a company with 70-75 crores of annual sales, to suddenly get a sponsorship worth 20-25 crs, that too being picked as a replacement of La Ning at the last minute by our sports ministry, looks suspicious.

She reached Tokyo on 28th July, her event started on 5th August!

My point is it doesn't look made up ..As it was there on social media ( you can check twitter as well )  that time but wasn't paid attention .

It seems like ego of both officials and player to some extent have clashed and the cause of this .

Federations are corrupt to the core and that is  understandable but to say everything said about certain incident is false is not the right way to go.

Vinesh's coach and her Indian physio did not get accreditation through IOA (some good for nothing official would have travelled as part of the contingent), but her coach still managed to get an accreditation through the Hungarian Olympics Association and was with her at Tokyo. The Indian physio could not. Vinesh had tweeted about it before the event.

No wonder WFI started to target Vinesh as soon as she got knocked out of medal contention. As I said, let all the details emerge gradually.
