Shami and Ishant both had niggles and were working with the physio. Sundar left the tour after fracturing his finger in the warmup three months back.  Players also had nets on Wednesday while Nets on Thursday got cancelled once the news of Physio getting positive came out.

I would have been fine with whatever judgement call they made - whether to play or not - that was completely their prerogative.

 

Personally, I would have loved it if they had played, was really looking forward to a good test match, but that should not factor into the decision.

No. We had 20+ players, 9 got quarantined. We didn't have any batsman left and as a result we lost those two T20s.  Bhuvneshwar IIRC batted at 6 . Here, Team wouldn't have wanted to play without fast bowlers and support staff. It's a test series on the line, better cancel or postpone it.
