Today 75th birthday of Majid Khan-an all-time great or amongst most talented batsmen ever?

No. Back in those days 39 average was considered ATG apparently.

I like majid khan. He is tough cricketer. Gritty. Fighter. Warrior. Not sure if he is the absolute best vs pace but he was certainly up there.

At same level to Ajinkya Rahane.

 

Remember, Rahane played one of the greatest knock of all-time by a captain in any sports ever for which he was awarded the Mullagh Medal and around 15 matches paid vacation post that. It was a perfect David vs Goliath story for him after Adelaide disaster.

Well. He was good. But.....not sure if he is at the top tier range as in best of all time category. 

 

Perhaps top 5 for his time? 

 

Question is was he good enough vs pace. Answer is yes. Not about his ability vs all kinds of attacks. Just pace. His average vs pace was phenomenal.

The reason he was so good against pace bowling and that too in the era of no helmet, because he played most of his cricket at early age at Lahore Gymkhana . It was the paciest wicket in Pakistan in those days and very well maintained . Wasim Raja , Ramiz's older brother was also the product of Lahore Gymkhana club. Wasim Raja , otherwise not a very consistent batsman but when it came to facing pace bowling, he could  also be considered as one of the ATG Asian batsmen . Wasim Raja's performance in that historic tour of Pakistan team to West Indies in 1976-77 , facing deadly West Indian pace battery of that time was not less than a fairy tale . He was second only to Majid Khan in runs during that series, scoring 517 ( Majid scored 530 ) .

 

Majid elegancy and stylish batting made him a real treat to watch. No wonder he used to be called Majestic Khan in county circuit. 

 

Majid always felt vey comfortable against any pace attack and was a free scoring batsman , his average suffered to some extend due to his less than perfect footwork against spin bowling particularly at later stage of his career.
