as long as they are doing it legally , its ok ..

If its legal, its ok is an incorrect way to look at it. There are many things that are unlawful which is legal according to the justice system. but I can understand their sentiments. Our taxes only benefit those in power. Although I like to bag the mighty mumbai midget, he is only covering his losses by diversifying in tax havens. as rich as the midget is, there are bigger fishes sharks that go under the radar. I want to live so won't mention their names :fear:Many tennis players live in Monaco, Bahamas, Dubai, etc. One may see that as selfish but Daniil Medvedev gave an interview where he explained the tax structures of certain countries where he will get only half of the prize money displayed on TV.

Middle class people and small business owners need a tax cut not the "too big to fail" big business. Not to mention the IT leeches who portray a moral high ground but are as corrupt as anyone. If the tax rates come down, there won't be any need to diversify in tax havens because the tradeoffs are less and people with money will find it much of a hassle. tax havens also have rules and regulations that the person has to live a certain amount of time and buy a house there or something like that. lowering the taxes would also require a gold based currency system not the petrodollar based one we have. That is for another topic and most probably won't happen.

This one too takes the biscuit from the man who has immensely  tarnished Bharat Ratna's image.

All the money and exposure in the world has not changed that ghaati  mentality.

Sachin Tendulkar, super God of cricket, has formally declared that he is an actor and not a cricketer. The excuse: he models for TV advertisements. In order to save tax of around Rs 2 crore on income derived from doing TV commercials, Tendulkar told the Income Tax tribunal that acting, not cricket, is his profession. The tribunal accepted that he is an artist on the grounds that "he has to use his own skills, imagination and creativity in the commercials".

Quote

When the assessing officer asked Tendulkar to explain the nature of his profession, the master blaster submitted that "he is a popular model who acts in various commercials for endorsing products of various companies". He further stated that the income derived by him from 'acting' had been reflected as income from "business and profession" whereas income from playing cricket was reflected as "income from other sources" since he is a non-professional cricketer. Tendulkar explained that the claimed deduction in tax was from the exercise of his profession as an 'actor'.

Quote

Asha Vijayaraghavan, judicial member of the tribunal, and R.K. Panda, accountant member, ruled: "While appearing in advertisements and commercials Tendulkar has to face the lights and camera. As a model he brings to his work a degree of imagination, creativity and skill to arrange elements in a manner that would affect human senses and emotions and to have an aesthetic value. No doubt, being a successful cricketer has added to his brand value as a model. But the fact remains that he has to use his own skills, imagination and creativity. Every sportsman does not possess that degree of talent or skill or creativity to face the lights and camera. The income received by him from modeling and appearing in TV commercials and similar activities can be termed as income derived from the profession of an artist."

I am a bit confused and have started to Question as why suddenly such papers get leaked, iirc this is third time in past few years.

On RT, conspiracy theorist once explained about capitalist driven economy and crisis, Idea is to shake the boat, so some people fall and less stay on boat

There was a SL Tamil NRI who tried to game the system legally and earned a lot of money by exploiting the tax loopholes in the IRS of the US. The legal system still took him down as he was not part of the "old boys' club". Even in the 08 crisis, they took down a few men and left the big sharks to get away scot free. Its an old trick. It happens even in mumbai docks. Mumbai police grabs hold of a shipment of illegal substances such as money, drugs, weapons but lets other 50 odd shipments go through without harm. Those criminals get away and Mumbai police show their "value" to society. Its a win win on both sides.

Above is why India will always remain 3rd world.

In any other developed country, Tendulkar would penalized like hell or worse  jailed for giving false inputs to govt/judiciary.

Nope. All "western" countries would welcome Tendy. Hey they even welcomed mallya and nirav modi. UK and some other european nations are the ones who invented this legal system with loopholes in the first place. US and India and other colonial nations inherited this legal system

You don’t get it. They would “welcome” them for the wealth they bring in. But what these characters try to do with falsifying in disclosures in India and playing with the law - they will not do that in UK. All this chuthiyapanti they feel they can do in India and get away.

The nature and quality of his acting or performance as an artist would never have resulted in the contracts and payments made out to him.

This was one of the reasoning given by tribunal when they rejected his claim earlier.

It seems tribunal is only one not aware that image and personality determines the type of contracts a cricketer gets. When companies have to decide between Dhoni and Kohli, they look for the image of the person. While Kohli is preferred for endorsement of luxury brands and consumer goods, Dhoni is not preferred for luxury products and mostly a face for masses.

So, while companies hire players because they are popular cricketers, their image and persona does matter in type of contracts and payments.

And how is ads income cricketing income?

Sachin is retired now and still getting ads. So, if his earlier claim was not right, then if he claimed his profession to be cricketer now, will it be correct although he is not playing cricket and getting endorsement because of his cricketing popularity?

What's wrong in claiming tax exemptions? Isn't he going the legal route?

Tendulkar won't be penalized in any developed country.

Ronaldo is guilty of tax evasion. Tendulkar isn't. He did everything legally.

Was Sachin getting ads because he was a cricketer ? Or did he play cricket because he was doing ads ?

If it is the former, then how was

“commercial artiste “  his primary profession as he falsely claimed during his playing days ?

Court accepted it, so it's not false.

Ofcourse we know how the courts in India work for the high and mighty.

Courts also accepted that Salman khan was not behind the wheel when he ran over and killed people sleeping on the streets because his driver accepted his “crime”.

Courts also accepted his version in the black bucks case.

So he must be innocent ofcourse.

I get it. They are welcoming for that reason only. London is where they house corporate criminals from third world countries and Swiss Bank is where they store their assets. By giving an asylum to these robbers, UK expects from them like what the mafia expects from the locality they rule. The legal system is designed to loot money nothing else. If you have time, look up "maritime admiralty". That is the legal system in anglosphere countries and other European countries most likely.

All these celebrities fined for fraud is just a show that the legal system is alright in those countries when it is not. Or probably they misbehaved from the given orders from their masters (agents and sponsor companies) and got punished for stepping outside the line.

The only difference between India and the west is in India, the corruption is egalitarian  meaning anyone who has accumulated some higher net worth can game the system. But in the west, only those who are in the "club" can do this. As I mentioned earlier some tamil guy tried to game their system in the same way as the guys in the club do but got caught in some legal manuevring the lawyers did to get him in the end.

Yeah, legally he was allowed, so he is chor. Great logic.

Yeah legally he is allowed to give false inputs  of his primary profession. Must be genius.
I think all the middle class can grow some a piece of plant in their house sell it and claim that their primary profession is farming and get tax exemption.

I guess legally he is also allowed to misuse his position as RS MP for favors from the Defense Minister for his commercial partner.

Want an honest true humble and simple man Tendulkar is.
