IPL teams are likely to be allowed to retain 4 players - 3 Indians and 1 overseas or a maximum of 3 Indians and maximum of 2 overseas, BCCI contemplates 'special picks' for two new IPL franchises

Allow the new franchises to play 5 foreign players as most top Indian players will be retained and the new teams will have a handicap.

These new teams will be left with oldies like Dhawan, Uthappa, Rahane, Pujara, Rayudu, Pandey, Jadhav to chose from. The teams could get skewed right from the beginning.

4 is fine, these franchises have worked hard building core for years n years

yes but if core remains same teams will keep winning until the players retire.

4 is still quite low, but fine I guess. If these existing teams don't retain their core players, then people will get disenchanted with the teams as they will not have anything in the past to relate the team to. Imagine if Rohit starts captaining CSK and Dhoni captains MI, neither MI nor CSK followers will be able to relate to them and accept them as their own.

Not quite. Last year CSK was second from last, now they are in the finals. Last year MI won, this time they could not even qualify for the playoffs. All teams can be competitive if they get their team selection and strategy right.

5 foreigners shud be norm for everyone. Its best for IPL going ahead as it ll help some sides do better and if someone feels they have better indian player well u dnt have to play 5 foreigners as in recent yrs MI, CSK, RCB have played 2-3 overseas in XI

CSK and MI combined have won more than 60% of last 13 IPLs. Tomorrow again CSK is favourites.

Other teams can't rebuild properly if top players aren't available.

With two new teams, 3 was enough to allow opportunity to most teams to be on equal footing.

Who the hell is John’s? Is he reputable?

does this mean 3+1 or 3 Indians and 2 foreigners so 5 total

Cricbuzz mentioned as source

max 3 Indian and max 2 foreigners. Total 4 within these rulings

MI n CSK will also loose players

For eg MI keeps Rohit, bumrah, hardik they ll loose sky, kishe, chahar

Csk keeps - rutu, jaddu, thakur they ll loose deepak

Dc keeps Pant, shaw , dhawan they ll loose ashwin, mishra, avesh, iyer
