Where else do you see it?

Not necessarily buddy. Just somebody he knows will be accountable to get a team to achieve the goals he has in mind. Maybe he wants certain improvements in slip catching. Maybe he trusts the chosen guy to get these players physically and mentally ready day in, day out. He doesn’t have to be a great ex player either. Just somebody competent who can provide the right support to current players. They say, for example, that Bharat Arun did some good work with our fast bowlers. He wasn’t a great player himself. But somehow he  must have been effective with communicating insights, running good practice sessions etc. Don’t know if an all time great like Kapil Dev (as an example) could have done that job.

There are no stats on dropped chances. That is true for most slip fielders. Since that is most chances you get for catching, their stats look good. I have seen him drop some chances. Maybe too harsh to say he dropped as many as he held.

dropped towards the end of his career but overall safe and took some good ones.
