I stand corrected then. I always thought there were two meanings based on the context. Other caste related slurs I generally avoid, even in banter:

 

Bhangi, Kanjar, Bania, Dho-bi (damned ICF autocorrects dho-bi to Dhoni ), Chamar, Bhand

Kuruba, Holeya. ChandaaLa (Kannada)
