Why would you judge him for how he did 6 years ago? Players improve over age or after failed starts in international cricket. He has had a resurgence in the last 3-4 years. Should be appreciated rather than being mocked for not being international class or for not having the skills (not sure why when he has consistently done so well in the VHT and SMAT for a few seasons now).

Like I said his time for international cricket is over but good on him to lead Himachal cricket to a new level. I hope he gets rewarded with a decent IPL contract and earns some good money.

did you see him bowl or bat in the final? his bowling was mediocre, although his batting seems to have acquired an extra gear. if anything, his bowling looks worse than it did when he played int'l cricket. in the latter period, he was hitting high 120s and occasionally low 130s, and this time he was mostly bowling low to mid 120s.

And I was clearly discussing his skill-sets for int'l cricket alone. The fact that he is a domestic legend (which I am happy to accept) is compatible with him being non-int'l class. Vinay Kumar is another such domestic legend, as is unadkut. these players have contributed a lot to domestic cricket, which is obviously a good thing.

Notable performances.

BATTING

RD Gaikwad  5 matches 603 runs 150.75 avge 112.92 strike rate 4 centuries. One interesting observation is 19 sixes in 5 matches.

Venky Iyer 6 matches 379 runs 63.16 avge  133.92 strike rate 2 centuries 1 fifty.  Great six hitting again.

WICKET KEEPER

KS Bharat 5 matches 370 runs 92.50 avge 108.18 strike rate.  Made 161* vs Himachal pradesh and 156 vs Gujarat.

Not a breakthrough performance. But will be a decent backup for Pant besides Kishan

BOWLING

Wasington sundar 8 matches 16 wickets 17.93 average 4.77 Economy rate. Given the patta wickets most of the matches happened this is an outstanding series for him.

Shivam Mavi 7 matches 15 wickets 17.20 avgerage 4.38 Economy rate

Don't know much about others.

They were not showing the ball speeds during the first 15-16 overs. How did you watch his speeds?

They showed it in certain other games. Furthermore, one can compare against other bowlers whose speeds were shown, and whose heights, delivery points, etc. are roughly similar and extrapolate from there. Lastly, I have seen R. Dhawan bowl in 2013-14 and then in int'l cricket when he played, and the balls are more floaty, less zip, the batsmen (in domestics) seem to have more time, etc.

You are welcome to disagree, I don't have any issues: the whole concept of pace, etc. has some degree of subjectivity, so having diff opinions is quite natural.

At his age his goal will be to find a franchise in the IPL. With more teams added he has a realistic chance to get picked up by someone.  On a lucky day he can even make substantial amount of money. Many useless players were sold for more. Look at Gautam. CSK bought him for 9.25 crores. This guy probably can be more useful. Internationals are sh***y pipe dream for him. And he knows it too.  Guys like Rayudu who was sidelined by his own state, played rebel league. He was staring at the end of his career. Got picked up by MI later played for CSK. Found a place in the Indian side and even became a dead cert for the world cup until he started failing.  Rishi may not have such a fairy tale come back. But he sure has a shot in the IPL.

I will not rule out his int'l comeback altogether. My own opinion is that he's not up to the mark, but I am no selector and what I think doesn't matter... perhaps he can make his way to IPL, do well there, and try to break into the team. It is theoretically possible. One good thing for him is that No. 6/No. 7 in ODIs -  pace-bowling AR is missing after Hardik's injuries. However, Venky Iyer seems more promising batting-wise.

We have one already in Jadeja. Not overly good in both the departments. This guy was going at 6 an over at this level. Imagine this guy bowling to international sides. India has guys like Thakur, Venky Iyer, Jadeja to fulfill that role of "all rounders". Then there is always instagram model Pandya who can manage to sneak back in.

Quite happy to see the ones I thot will do well actually did well. Venky, Rutu, Washy, Mavi.

true. all 4 did well, but washy's batting was inconsistent. Mavi seems to be getting back to form, which is very good news.

If Shivam Dube can get a cap for India he's got to think he can too even at an advanced age.
