You want to examine NZ's path to the WTC final, while simultaneously make excuses for the breaks and penalty avoidances that India got.   This is a petty and one-eyed mindset.

Mind you, I am well aware of NZ's limitations as a test unit, and its not wrong to assert that India's a stronger test team overall with a longer series, or more 'neutral' conditions.  But its childish, and to be blunt foolish to overdo it and claim NZ aren't 'deserving' WTC champions.

What breaks and penalties? We were touring and going into bubbles for an entire year. We had to play ling series plus other formats. What break?

They deserved to win the WTC final on the day but India were at a massive disadvantage due to scheduling and covid protocols. All I am saying is We dint get a fair chance to showcase our true ability. We may very well lose even if we were well prepared under kohli but its a pity we never got to see both teams play at their best. Well Kiwis were well prepared. India weren't.

I just wanted to see our team compete at its best. If our best isn't enough then so be it. I feel like India dint even prioritise wtc as we heard kohli mention about how this is a Meaningless one off. Seems like they used this as a prep game for England Tour.

I'd love to see WTC final being played in Joburg.  That's a true neutral venue imo.

NZ will start favorites in England & NZ.  It can go either way in South Africa.

yeah that would have been a much more 'neutral' setting.

To be honest, given a one-off test, I would not put it past NZ to spank India's slow adapting superstars in those conditions too.

AND, you'd still have such threads created about how SA is 'more' suitable to NZ team's strengths than India's.

Crybabies gonna cry.  They don't necessarily need facts to support the crying.

In normal "tournaments", individual teams do not get to pick and choose their opponents.  Or avoid certain ones.

Indian team got to to do that in the WTC - and instead of forfeiting points for skipping a certain opponent, got zero penalties for indulging in such selective competition.

That's a pretty unfair advantage right there.  If you want to question how NZ got to the WTC final because of penalty points, then this lack of penalty points carries similar weight, if not more.  Especially because Indian cricket board forced ICC into ensuring WTC points do not penalize them for their selective behavior, whereas NZ board were not responsible for influencing penalty points which ended up benefiting their team.

Absolutely..  Jamieson can extract more bounce than any of our bowlers & their batters are disciplined enough to survive tough spells.  But either way it will provide a equal chance to both sides.  Anything can happen in a one off game

Anything can happen in a one-off game - and India had 2 innings for their batsmen to put their hand up in half-decent fashion to at least draw the rain-affected game.

And they failed miserably.

Even Zimbabwe batsman would have drawn that game.  Pitch had eased out in broad daylight.  It was simply pathetic.  We collapsed under pressure.  Pant played a ridiculous shot to trigger collapse

Yes but shy should we risk the lives of our players by playing against a nation involved with terrorism and are at at war with india perennially.

abey newbie, who are you trying to teach about greenbros?

Thats not the point.  Point is that both India and NZ got to the WTC under the rules, and neither's presence there can be legitimately questioned.

I mean you can question it, but you're just being a biased fool at that point.

India is perfectly capable of beating NZ in any conditions if they back the right players and get rid of the deadwoods. Especially the batting department. Can't complain about our bowlers. They are the ones that save our face time and again.

Last I recall pakistan were ranked 6th or 7th at the time.

Which top nation did Kiwis beat away in that particular cycle to 'deserve' a spot in the final. Aussies were deserving finalists. We would have still lost the final under kohli because he is a moron but that's a different matter.

Aussies had to skip s.africa tour due to covid issues.

I dont think we can win vs Kiwis in their country even with the right players tbh. Apart from there yes we can. We just don't have the type of players capable of playing swing late over there. Don't know maybe siraj can make a difference there next time along with thakur.

NZ is one place where batting will get better and better. In most places batting on day 5 will be the easiest.  First day is likely to be the toughest mostly.  With guys like Boult/ Southee swinging the ball into right handers they can easily set off a collapse.  India needs 7 proper batsmen in the line up. Almost all of them should be in form.

Bleh this is a useless exercise, my bias would tell me anywhere except NZ & Eng - but on the cricketing field it doesn't really matter! India on their good days could beat NZ in 6 or7 test series across Eng or NZ, hey could also loose badly in SA/Oz to these kiwi turnips! Overall with the depth we have I'd bet Ind beats NZ 8-9/10 times anywhere in the world over a 5 test series, but again that's just on paper & it's a useless exercise - these guys have insane luck against us so who knows :hitler:
