I am an Ashwin fan. Will defend him everywhere but here you have no point.

 

Giving one-off example of Sangakkara doesn't make sense. Sri Lankans are just about good against Spin. Chandimal and a few passanger cricketers maybe excellent but they don't play every match.

Based on a small set of sample of Axar  against a team that is at its nadir, poster already discredited all his achievements at home like they were all achieved on doctored pitches. Over the period of last 11 years several teams visited India. Not all of them were as bad as the recent English side.  We will know the reality over a period.

SL pitches are bowling friendly as well and an off spinner doing well against a left hander in spinning conditions is nothing new.

Ashwin played in that entire small sample of Axar and they were similar in performance. So he benefited from opposition of Eng/NZ and the pitches just like Axar.  Ashwin got MOS for both series.

 

Yes  they were acheived on doctored pitches. Indian home pitches are doctored for spin. Where else do you see 2 spinners - Ashwin and Axar - open bowling with new ball and be effective? At Perth?

 

See you like Ashwin - fine. I dislike doctored pitches for spin from day 1.... I prefer pitches which support all bowlers - pace first 2 days and then take spin day 3, 4 and 5. I dislike it when bowlers get Man of series in India and be unplayable in India and absolutely stink it up in Aus and SA. I  think Ashwin has been very average in Eng and pretty bad in Aus. He has been horrible in SA.

Ha! For me, Ashwin may go onto take gazillion wickets at home but after his **** show in SA tests, those home test wickets do not count for much.

 

He'll be 36 by the time we play Aus later in the year. Dravid should start planning for the transition right from the SL tests

Helpful is different from doctored. Sure we had a few pitches like that. I don't believe every single pitch in India was like that.  We basically have this self-loathing take on our wins at home.

Sanga was right at the fag end of his career, his numbers were actually declining even if it was a small sample! He also played against Pak in 2 tests just before India(similar 3 test series) & didn't do that great, for some reason he played only 2 tests vs us & 2 vs Pak, both series SL lost IIRC. he wasn't going to become Bradman all of a sudden because age caught up with him, he was smart because his numbers would take a nose dive from that point on. His biggest motivation, WC 2015, was already behind him & he'd won a 2014 WT20 just before that.
