I am taking his example as I remember a stat while watching the 2004 series he was averaging low 30's after 30 tests playing majority of cricket on flat pitches in Pak, asia and elsewhere.. He then found his mojo and averaged above 50 in 10 out of next 11 years ( from 2004-2015 ) outstanding consistency for an above average player.. Now would current test batsmen ( esp from India) ever get such a chance? How will you perform if you get one flat pitch per year.. and that flat pitch would be followed by a dust bowl or a juicy track.. is it not unfair?

Don't see anyone averaging above 50 ish tbh in this tough era with so many good bowlers. Maybe 45-49.

I think 1 or 2 exceptional talents could come close to 50 if nurtured well.... like Glass-man (Sundar)

But according to pannauti kuli fans he is overrated.

He already scored more than kohli ever did in Australia for a decider game lmao. Also took 2 wickets at a crucial time. Find me one time when kohli scored a match winning innings in Australia for a series decider?

Pujara did it in 2018.

Rookie sundae who has insane potential outshone kohli in decider. Lel.

bowlers being made to look much better with favorable pitches

No. Bowlers are top quality. Batsmen just finding it too hard to cope with them.

In flat era of 2000, batsmen were made to look better than they are. Could say the same.

No.1 bowler who is also a captain just failed to get a team all out in 1000 balls. Only time this happened last time was during a timeless test.

He's no where near McGrath who produced similar stats on 2000s roads. Same with Bumrah, failed in two 4th innings chases back to back. Easiest era for bowlers making them look better than they are

WTC is making bcci go insane. 2016-17, we had great pitches both skillful bowlers and batsmen made merry. Now its just dustbowl after dustbowl

I could apply the same logic and say batsmen of 2000 benefitted from no drs and look better than they are because they played on flat roads to stat pad.

Bowlers are better now. Much better. Every team ha quality bowlers. Top 6 teams anyway. Even weste Indies have decent bowling. Roach alzarri holder and the young fella Jayden seales.

Also mcgrath was a massive tosser who often forced umpires to give wrong decisions. His sledging etc wouldn't be tolerated in the current era. Lots of calls went his way. It only went against them vs pakistan.

McGrath was true goat bowler. From 2000 to 2007 on flat road ( according to you)his avg was 20. He took 297 wickets in 66 test.

Who cares if he's a sledger and tosser lol we're talking about their cricketing skills here. And the DRS argument goes both ways, lot of bowlers overturning umpire decisions these days, we saw it in the recent SL series too.

The fact every team has good bowlers doesn't mean we're not in bowling friendly era. If anything it highlights that bowling is relatively easier now with everyone conscious about workloads and improvements in sport science as well as much as better pitches to bowl on

Yea but workload is higher now with 3 formats. Do you could say modern players don't get enough test practice prior to test series. They could be even more deadly if the focus was entirely on tests and odi like the past. It is futile to compare eras tbh. Not the same rules. If you think bowling is easier now then batting was definitely easier in 2000 era during McGrath's time. Could be the case of weaker batsmen benefiting from no drs, no no ball umpiring, no advanced tech to analyse battsmen etc. Sahcu bhai and co struggled badly vs much weaker kiwi sides with Simon doull etc. Got bowled put for 99 and 120 ish scores.

Batting roads made those stat padded look better than they are. Not talking about Sachin, just saying in general.

Literally everyone agrees that batsmen statpadded in 2000s, even op is saying the same thing. The fact that even on such roads McGrath, Steyn etc produced those stats means theyre a cut above the current crop. The moment the current bowlers face roads, they're getting exposed.

I think Cummins and co will have a strong reality check from this series and prepare better tactics next time

Maybe. Playing pak is one thing. Playing India is a whole different ball game though.
