Why New Zealand succeed despite their obvious lack of resources?

NZ appears to groom its cricketers well, prioritizing those with right spirit and mental toughness where applicable

Lack of expectations, no one talks about them if they fail and once they start winning it feels like they have been winning everything.

 

They stand 5 in Test and T20I ranking but no one cares, they lost a home t20 series to an Asian team just before the t20i wc, no  one said anything regarding their team or the changes they should make.

To add to the above points - astute captaincy. Martin Crowe, Stephen Fleming, Danny Vettori, BMac, KW, are all very good captains.

rugby is by far NZ's most followed sport, so cricket has been able to operate under the shadows.

 

currently, I am inclined to rate our hockey team a bit higher than our current LOI cricket team, even though the latter is far more followed

Haven’t won anything in LOIs in their history … last 5 years at least pak won a champions trophy.

And they do the unthinkable and win a Test series in India, breaking the greatest streak in Test cricket.

i had this fear. The reason being is thei familiarity with Indian pitches. They also know the weaknesses of all the batsmen.
