Dhoni was a master of remaining not out and this made his average rather impressive.

 

He had a " Runs per innings "  of 36 and an Average of almost 51 in ODIs due to 84 freaking not outs in 297 innings.

that's job of finisher as long as SR is not too low

Spot on .Dhoni was a product of ODI era where running between the wickets and occasional boundary hits and 85 plus SR was considered great.He also had ability to come in if early wickets fell and consolidate before attacking.

 

As he got older his power game and Strike rotation went down  but he still could hold one end up .

 

Dhoni is ATG in odis and only a fool would deny it.He never had a game suited for t20s.

Yes there'd always be a partnership when he came to the crease.

To me he was done being top tier in 2015.It was just due to his sheer determination he kept going.By 2019 he was on fumes, ideally he should have hung up his boots and given Pant full time WK in 2017. We could have had much more balanced team then than having 3 WKs in the playing eleven.
