Being a spinner is obviously an advantage in India, not only because most of the tracks help them, but even our coaches and captains understand how to plan with spinners. Ganguly once said, "it's easiest to captain in India..just give one end to Kumble and other to Bhajji and they will take care of everything. It's overseas where you have to really put your thoughts behind each and every pacer, that's where real captaincy is tested".

A team that has full of average T20 players ( Rahul, Hooda, Krunal, Badoni, Gowtham, Avesh, Mankad ) reached playoff. Stonis, Pooran, Wood and Mayers won them sufficient games and some luck assisted by tacky Lucknow pitches enabled LSG to sneak into the playoff and then deservingly eliminated in a humiliating loss in the eliminator. Coming back to pace bowling,Mark Wood lit up the IPL early on and them mysteriously disappeared ( 4 matches, 11 wickets.)Yash Thakur ( 9 matches, 13 wickets ) and Naveen Ul Haq ( 8 matches, 11 wickets ) were good supporting bowlers throughout but not match winners.Avesh Khan, as usual, mediocre and expensive and rightfully dropped at later stages. ( 9 Matches, 8 Wickets, 9.75 Economy)Yudhvir Singh ( 3 matches, 3 wickets ) didn't get enough opportunities despite showing promise.Mohsin Khan ( 5 matches, 3 wickets ) played on past reputation and did won them one game in death but was mostly slow and harmless.J Unadkat was destined to play bulk of matches but was injured after 3 poor games ( 3 matches, 0 wickets) Spinners disappointed big time despite playing bulk of the matches at helpful conditions at home.Ravi Bishnoi ( 15 matches, 16 wickets, 7.74 Eco) was safe & economical but not a game changer.Krunal Pandya ( 15 matches, 9 wickets, 7.45 Eco) made good use of tired pitches to be a good defensive bowler but didn't pick up enough wickets.Amit Mishra ( 7 matches, 7 wickets, 7.84 Eco ), the IPL 40 year old veteran, did put in decent performance on helpful pitches but not trusted enough.K Gowtham ( 7 matches, 3 wickets, 7.37 Eco) failed to take wickets and was ineffective. He is tall, quick and bowls a heavy ball plus can bat as well. They wasted so many games on Avesh, all with negative output at the end. Mosher, express bowling and deepdynamo 3

That final over defence which was fine blinded GG & LSG TM that he can replicate last year. Barely bowled in 140's or banged the ball with effort. Was just going through the motions... No big overseas names, couple of rookies and an IPL veteran with a babyface. But still, they are in playoff and in contention for IPL final.

Mohit anyway was always a good T20 bowler due to his variations and he is one of the few bowlers who get reverse swing in T20 as well. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a potent stock ball which means he can't bowl upfront..and don't have good height which can help him to be used as a middle overs enforcer. Selecting someone only for the death bowling skills and variations is always a bad idea which has backfired us countless times. Harshal Patel is a prime and fresh example of that. deepdynamo 1

Yes exactly Mohit can be a good T20 bowler in a team that has variety in bowling. -Shami, Pandya upfront -Rashid, Noor as quality spinners -Josua little 140k middle over enforcer - And then Mohit with his variations. Put him in a team with average bowling attack and he is most likely not make that much of an impression. singhvivek141 1

Mohit on those dodgy Caribbean pitches & slowish USA venues could be a horses for courses selection. Still feel we should see him in few T20s down the line. Remarkable achievement considering they lost Bumrah & Archer due to injuries, didn't have any renowned spinners and tried rookies right through the season. Madhwal & Chawla carried the bowling while Beherendoff was decent upfront. Overall, a good campaign for MI despite lack of resources.Jason Behrendroff took the mantle of lead overseas fast bowler and gradually improved his performances. ( 12 matches, 14 wickets, 9.21 Eco)Akash Madhwal After trying many rookies, MI found the perfect one in Madhwal. He was a revelation and impressed everyone with his variations. Also bowled an unreal spell in the eliminator - 5/5 ( 8 matches, 14 wickets, 8.58 Eco)Cameron Green, As an allrounder, Green gave Mumbai few overs to fill up. Nothing spectacular, just decent. ( 16 Matches, 6 Wickets, 9.50 Economy)Jofra Archer ( 5 matches, 2 wickets ) , Riley Meredith ( 5 matches, 7 wickets ) and Chris Jordan ( 6 matches, 3 wickets) were super expensive (economy over 10), predictable and ineffective.Arjun Tendulakr ( 4 matches, 3 wickets ) was a nepotistic pick and was found out to be mediocre. Arshad Khan , another rookie, was tried out for 6 games and had an economy of 13.41. Spinners didn't set the stage on fire. Chawla used his experience to singlehandly save MI bowling campaign.Piyush Chawala ( 16 matches, 22 wickets, 8.11 Eco) The veteran legspinner spearheaded MI campaign and exceeded expectation to become top wicket taker.Kumar Kartikeya ( 8 matches, 5 wickets, 8.73 Eco) was entrusted to bowl tidy left arm spin but was disappointing. Didn't grab his opportunity.Hritik Shokeen ( 8 matches, 3 wickets, 9.84 Eco ), another rookie was tried out but was fared worse than even Kartikeya. Match 1 - 1/51 (3.1) Match 16 - 0/56 (4) In between, he picked up 20 cheap wickets with most of the wickets caught at boundary. Economy of over 10 RPO in IPL 2023. A undeserving player to play all games. Can't believe Dhoni backed this guy.

Agreed, it would have been better if guy like Hangaregekar got the same backing from Dhoni.Dhoni always backed trundlers over fast bowlers.
