Even if he wants don't think it is his choice anyway.  He started as a batsman and converted himself into a bowler much like Ashwin. There is no going back. He can only play as an all rounder unless he reels out 100s and 200s at that position.

51 wickets. Even in under-19 world cup he was just an all rounder who do a bit of both.   He was spotted when he bowled well for RPS team in the IPL. He had a great economy. So he started playing as  T20 bowler for India as well. He did not play first class for 4 years or so after his initial debut. Then he got accidentally picked for Tests. He was never in the running for  Tests as he hardly played first class.

Someone is giving him wrong advise, like Shastri said he has better batting talent than him.

 

He also advised him to bat at top in FC.Is he not good enough to bat at the top?He will never make it in whiteball cricket.He simply does not have long levers.

 

Even today instead of trying to score, he was just let other tailender score.

6 years back as a 17 year old in Duleep Trophy he put up a great all rounder performance  11 wickets for the match plus 88 & 42 and won man of the match award. After that he didn't play much of first class.

That is what made him get India cap, he needed to improve on it.Instead he has gone backwards in last two years.

Given how our selection works these days his performance in IPL will be given a bigger weightage.  He has to express himself there. Having said that Ashwin's spot is still open for him as i don't see an off spinner fighting for that spot as Paan Paraag is his only competitior who has done zilch.  Other one is Nitish Rana who is more a batsman who can bowl.

ashwin is a bowling AR, the rest are batters who bowl a bit. sundar is more of a top 6-7 player who will be 5th bowler

Assuming Axar and Kuldeep will be our lead spinners once Ashwin and Jaddu retire.

Sundar can bat at 7, Axar at 8, Kuldeep at 9 and then 2 Pacers in Asia.

 

In SENA...we can use either of Axar or Sundar at 7... followed by 4 quicks.

That was well swept by Sarfraz against Sundar. He is effortlessly sweeping him from outside the off stump to square leg.

Given the fluency of Sarfraz against spin could have been played against Bangladesh instead of Kohli. Sai Kishore is bowling accurately. He probably will be future left arm spinning all rounder

Ricky Bui dropped Panchal's catch off Sundar's bowling. Tough one . But you should expect these edges

One thing is sure Domestic batsmen are way better players of spin than our Middle order

India's frontfoot plonkers against spin might have to play doemstic to learn how to play spin. Panchal/Sarfraz/Eswaran all are versatile against spin. Jaiswal is as well.
