NKR has done more overall, yes. But Pandu did some valuable contributions with ball.

Selectors and TM totally lucked out with this hidden-gem of a batsman Reddy.

 

He was the only guy resembling a seam all-rounder anywhere in the picture, so they had to select him for a test series in Australia. If not for his somewhat decent bowling skill, he would never have sniffed the test team. That he was able to put up this kind of batting performance against this attack (after averaging 23 in FC cricket) could not have been predicted. So, all this "selectors unearthed him" hype that we are seeing on this thread and elsewhere is unnecessary.

Excluding tests, his FC batting avg was about 21, so even more remarkable!

Damn! They would never have selected him based on those numbers even if they had seen his raw ability and temperament in other settings. Now, of course, they will be falling all over themselves to take credit for his selection. As someone once said, success has many fathers.

clocking 140 kph is nice, but other skills are needed too. Pandu developed them over time. Perhaps NKR would too over an extended run

Did you guys listen to Cricbuzz chat between DK and Harsha?  DK shared an info about Reddy.  Seems like REdd had issues against short balls in the Practice game.  Abhishek Nayyar has made some suggestsions to deal with short ball. Apparently he could instantly implement that solution on the fly.

Whoever picked him for SRH deserves some credit as that is where he got the exposure. There is no way he would have played for India with that FC stats.  SUndar also got into side after he played for RPG in the IPL.
