You looked like a bat coz of bags and dark circles under ur eyes coz u did masti. I remember you from back in the day, my guy :)

The major brakes in his career were not due to injuries but the infights in the team and his own doing at times. They dropped him in wc qf/sf against ind No man, you dont get dropped in midst of series due to infighting, you get dropped from team after series. That happened to him too, but man rarely finished an actual test series he played most of the time. Coz he always pulled something, hurt something, etc. I havent looked in cricinfo but i am pretty sure if someone checked, they'd find that the dude simply didnt finish most of the series he played, PLUS all the things others are saying abut his infighting and doping and all that crap but those were extended months/half year etc. long forays. I am talking more about the times he just straight up couldnt finish series coz he was a fatass slob. Which he was from 2003 or so onwards IIRC . Shoaib partied hard, rarely worked at his fitness and was often seriously overweight. Which was always bad news for stamina and long term durability of a bowler with a ginormous bounding runup in the first place.

If he does well for India A then he is most likely to be kept back in some capacity. Yes, i can see this as his only viable pathway but even then, that is still unlikely IMO. There are more bowlers ahead of him and will get ahead of him as soon as Ranji starts. Can;t believe no Ranji team wants him to start even as 3rd bowler. Must be something seriously wrong with his fitness or long game stamina.
Nikhil_cric Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 (edited) Point is not every bowler needs to go through the FC grind at a very young age (<24). It can be very counter productive for their careers. It won't affect someone like a Mitchell Starc who can just rock up and bowl because of his body type. Someone like Cummins had a staggered introduction to long format cricket where he played ODIs and was kept off FC cricket for 5-6 years before playing a half season of FC and then straight to Test cricket. I once spoke to Ambrose in person and he was pretty clear cut - that the 'power' for fast bowlers dont come from their upper bodies, it comes from their core and their legs. Which would make sense when you look at how many genuine fast bowlers are skinny in the upper body. But if you look at their legs, they all have strong buttocks, almost the kind you'd see from gym squat-freaks. Holding, Marshall, Mohammed Sami ( the Pakistani one not our guy), Bumrah, Malinga, etc. are a few people who come to mind who are genuinely 90+mph bowlers but upper body is skinny as twigs. Ofcourse, you have 'mushtanda' built fast bowlers like Alan Donald/Brett Lee/Shoaib Akhtar etc. who look like He-man for the upper body as well. Did you see 23 year old Brett Lee bowling 150 kph. Bumrah is heman in front of that Brett Lee.

You'll maybe have to go back to Wasim Akram. Even Shaheen and Naseem played FC before making Test debut. Technically even Mayank has played an FC game Pak has a different way of selecting the bowlers/player, there are not many developed centres may be 2/3 places for cricket. If they see some1 has pace they will pick him and that guy will leap from every1. and as soon as they lose pace they are no good for the team. Its not like Pcb domestic structure is producing high speed pacers they too are like same sub 140 kmph bowlers. if a bowler is not fast they wont pick in the intnl side unless there is too much outside pressure then they will pick them just to discard after 1 bad performance. Similar to how its in Ind with batting all batters have kind of decent technique apart from short ball , pak bowler have kind of decent technique with bowling apart from if they are not chucking. And with tape ball culture the bowlers atleast know what not to bowl and have decent bumper and yorkers

Brett lee has always been significantly deeper and stronger in the chest than Bumrah. He is a deep chested fellow, not as much as Kallis. Bumrah is more of a beanpole build. I dont know what tricks your memory is playing on you. I mean sure, late 20s & early 30s Brett lee was a lot buffer but thats more coz he filled out than he worked out to get giant muscles. These are that ectomorph, endomorph etc. bodytype things.

There are different kind of bowlers. There is no one rule for everyone. There are power bowlers and there are momentum bowlers. Likes of Shoaib, Tait are power bowlers. They are slingers and depend on power to bowl quick. Shoaib did a lot of power training to be able to hit 160 kph. Then there are bowlers like Dale Steyn who runs in and depend on momentum but the most important thing is fast twitch muscle fibers. Need4Speed and tapandrun 2

I dont see it counterproductive but in fact MANDATORY to someone with injury concerns. Hip injuries arent a joke, if you look into them. That he is getting them this young is extremely worrying. If that same muscle he injured completely rips, its near career ending. forget 150, he wont even cross 130 in that case. I mean sure, Cummins method is fine for Mayank- i simply am talking about the test tour for Oz land here. Mayank is a no-go for that. its even ridiculous to consider lol.

I never said that he should go to Australia. I was simply pointing out that playing 20 FC matches is not necessary or even good for the overall career of a bowler at this age You mentioned the Aussie system and Cummins. Cummins is actually an example of the opposite - someone who played limited FC for a long time. That's all. Mayank is not ready either way. But he should play ODIs and T20's in a staggered manner.

As i said, it is for him because he has serious injury questions about him. Hip injuries, especially if they are hip flexor, is no joke. They are often career ending. Thats what ended Murray's career as top end tennis player, thats what is ending Nadal's career at the end, same story with bowlers- if you blow out your hip flexor, its game over for elite status. I am pointing out the Cummins way as in at worst he should go cummins way - play ODIs and T20s for several years before making Test debut after getting some FC experience. I dunno how that is opposite of 'dude cant get into test team anytime soon, as in anytime in the next 6 months. At best, he can get to England tour for tests IMO and even then he may not play, because i see no reason India shouldnt go for a 3+2 format even in SENA nations. No reason to drop both Ravis with our wonky batting lineup in the first place. Make no mistake, Virat and Gill are gonna lay turds or at best, not embarass themselves in the tours. If india has any hope of winning/drawing those series, we need to bat deep and bat till 8. Meaning both Ravis. period. That should not even be negotiable, given the disaster that is the Indian test batting lineup currently. With Boom, Shami & Shami jnr, i dont see where Mayank fits in for the immediate future. Once a Ravi retires, which should happen in next 2 years, then we can make room for Mayank.

tapandrun Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 No board/selectors wait if they find some1 bowling 145+kmph, these kind of bowlers directly get to intnl sides. Milne was 19, tait and lee were 22/23, cummins was 19, edwards was 21 , wood was 25 (guess he was injured thats why the delay). These kind of bowlers needs special care which can not be done in any domestic circuits, need proper health and conditioning, monitoring, injury managements etc. Which is not possible fr a domestic side. If these kind of bowlers get injured in domestic they donot get same kind of care and for longevity and lack of motivation they too lose some pace express bowling 1
rkt.india Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 1 hour ago, Muloghonto said: No, speed comes from energy transfer. Ie, technique. Different bowling techniques uses different energy transfer mechanism- the front on round arm action of Waqar is spring energy energy transfer. The Alan donald action is momentum energy transfer. Anyone who says bowling speed comes from fast twitch muscles do not understand what fast twitch muscles actually do. Fast twitch muscles are irrelevant to bowling fast, because speed is not generated by explosive muscle power. Tait, shoaib akhtar, Mitchell Johnson all generated pace by muscle power. They are power bowlers. There is no one rule in fast bowling because bodies are different and there are different type of bowlers. Alan Donald is not same as Shoaib or Lee who are knee dominant slingers. Jofra Archer is not same as Mark Wood. Both are different type of bowlers. Likes of Steyn, Donald are momentum bowlers. Some bowlers need to run fast to generate pace. These are momentum bowlers. 20% of pace comes from runup. These bowlers have to move quickly from back foot to transfer momentum. Like Steyn. Some bowlers runs slow and generate pace. They are power bowlers. They spend more time on the backfoot to generate power like Tait, Shoaib. Most side on bowlers do. Some are in between bowlers too. Only thing most pertinent to bowling genuine pace is percentage of fast Twitch fibers. Ambrose talking about generating pace from lower body is useless. he is just a bowler. He knows how to bowl and take wickets. He played when cricket sports science wasn't evolved. Every bowler was trained in same way. He is not a biomechanic or sports scientist. Upper chest, lats, delts are the most important muscles in generating pace. Lower body strength is important for your run-up momentum. Mostly strong buttocks are important for momentum hip dominant bowlers like Jofra, Donald, Steyn. Fast bowling science is much more evolved now. We understand every individual has a pace ceiling depending on the type of muscle fibers they have predominantly and training and technique can only help to a limit. Bowlers have been categorised according to their neurotypes. Type 1 and Type 2. Both have subclassification type 1A, type 1b. Type 2a, type 2b. Type 1 are those with high fast twitch muscle fibers. Type 1 a is knee dominant explosive bowlers, Type 1b hip dominant momentum bowlers. tapandrun 1

It will also help him bowl well to left handers. It's not a big deal. Navdeep Saini did it too who used to bowl 135-140, started hitting 145 with this subtle change. This change will help him. express bowling 1
