axar should not play in tests. his batting is solid, but bowling has tailed off badly. we need a proper batting AR. likewise, he should not play ODIs too: not enough of a batter, and not a sufficiently penetrative bowler.

 

we need someone like nishant sindhu (or washy if he ever rediscovers his mojo, which seems unlikely) in Tests, and possibly riyan paragh in ODIs

I would actually forsee him getting replaced by Nishant Sindhu or any other promising spinner. Axar is okay for T20 as he can bowl in pp.

Nishant has great potential both with the bat and the ball.

Nishant has great potential both with the bat and the ball.

nishant is much better than axar as a bat, even right now for tests. as for bowling, axar has nosedived so much that sindhu is only a little behind him perhaps

Replace Rohit with Gambhir as he's as clutch as they come. Plus gives you a left-right combo. Chahal is useless and peak Ashwin is better. Also, still not sold on SKY - hasn't done anything when it counts. I would have Sehwag as opener and Kohli at 3. My team...

 

Gambhir - Clutch and shows up in Knockouts. Plus a leftie at the top. Also the VC of the team

Sehwag - To kickstart the innings; Plus could roll his arm over

Kohli - His best position is no. 3

Raina - Goes from ball one, and can bowl spin if needed

Yuvi - Ideal T20 bat, and a handy spinner

Dhoni - Best white-ball captain, and wkt keeper

Kapil - Didn't play T20s but he's the guy who has a SR of more than 100 in ODIs in 80s! Would've been the perfect T20 all-rounder

Irfan Pathan - Could swing the ball at pace when he started. Plus a pretty useful bat

Ashwin - Amazing at his peak in mid 2010s, and can hold the bat if needed

Bhuvi - Gives you control in PP, and at his peak could nail yorkers

Bumrah - Best Indian pacer

 

The team has 4 pacers, 4 spin options, and batting till no. 8. Can play on any kind of surface - slow/spin friendly, or fast/seaming ones.

 

Others in the squad:

Tendulkar - Walks into the team in ODIs but in T20s Sehwag is a better opener and Gambhir shades him as a leftie and for top scoring in 2 WC finals

Pandya - On seaming pitches, can replace Ashwin, or can replace Irfan if more depth needed

Jadeja - As a specialist 12th man. Would never play him but keep him as the sub fielder most of the innings

Kumble - On a spin friendly and slowish pitch, his fastish leg spin would be handy; could keep it tight bowling wkt-to-wkt a la Rashid Khan
