Djokovic is 38, understandable. 3rd best player on tour but clearly Alcaraz, Sinner are on a different stratosphere now.

 

AO final, FO SF, stopped by Sinner both times. Here also, same fate awaits.

 

He should continue till next year end, in case both those guys get upset in earlier rounds ( almost happened here btw), Nole can win his 25th (or another ATP finals) and retire on a high like Sampras post 2002 USO

Djokovic should retire after this IMO. It is painful to see him today.

Poor Germany.

He's just from a region that speaks German because of proximity to Austria. Don't think he has any connection to Germany(maybe wrong here)

These new crop of tennis players, are taller, stronger, smarter, so much more stamina. Alcaraz, Sinner, Fritz, etc. Nole looks a shadow of his past, should retire after this game.

Tomorrow's final will be interesting. Always felt, Swiatek with her playing style will have max 2 shots at Wimbledon in her entire career. Tomorrow probably the best chance she is ever going to get, and one that will cement her as an all time great. 

 

She will probably retire with 10 French Opens, but needs just one Wimbledon trophy to complete her resume as an all court player.

Despite recent H2H and the mental stranglehold, Sinner is my favorite tomorrow. Playing better, more suited to fast courts, and most importantly law of averages. Alcaraz has won the last 5 encounters between these two, even Federer never had 6 straight losses against Nadal at any stage of his career despite the obvious matchup issue. If Sinner outdoes that, he needs a psychologist more than a tennis coach. 

 

That luck against Dimitrov was all he needed, maybe a turning point for him after underperforming here for past few years.....I will be surprised if a guy like Sinner doesn't end up winning at least 5 Wimbledons, he has the game and age to even challenge Federer's record here tbh.

 

These two have met once before in Wimbledon, 2022 R16 where Sinner won comfortably in 4 sets, 6-1, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3.

Nole's decline in speed was so visible yesterday, was attempting shots from weird positions just because he couldn't chase them down in time. Federer had a similar match against Hurkacz and retired after that. This problem can be managed a bit better on clay but Nole can't hit through Sinner, Alcaraz there, his game was never built for ballbashing, that is Stan's domain.

At the start of last year, if Nole had been offered a chance at #25 or Olympic gold, he would have picked the gold. Guy is too emotionally involved when playing for his country, and after 3 cruel heartbreaks in London/Rio/Tokyo, his unexpected gold beating Alcaraz in the final, was glorious, his last burst of energy perhaps. 

 

Fed the only one among Big 3 without Olympic gold (singles). Murray won 2 golds, in London and Rio !!!!

Didnt realise the H2H was so tilted in Alcaraz's favour, Is it due to playstyle that he is dominating or just the kind of surfaces they have met at?

Alcaraz has been dominating him even on HC which stylistically suits Sinner, and troubles the Spaniard. 

 

Mental block is my guess. Otherwise what explains Sinner losing RG F despite holding 3 championship points, then failing to serve it out next game?

 

Sinner dominates rest of the tour, only losing to Alcaraz at the end. Kind of like Federer's run in 2004-07 when he only ever lost to Nadal, but there was a definite matchup issue there, Nadal's top spin FH breaking down Federer's one handed back hand, and Fed unable to escape that pattern. Here Alcaraz just has more variety, better FH and fearless approach, otherwise no clear matchup edge that explains such a lopsided H2H. If Sinner can reverse this mental block, I see him having a better career than Alcaraz, though both have GOAT potential just like Big 3.
