Kohli has never shown that ability. Kohli vs VVS is a good example of mountains vs plateau. VVS never quite went consistently as high as Kohli in his peaks, but he didnt suck so bad in his troughs as Kohli either. Ultimate_Game 1

He won us quite a few matches by batting with the tail. He failed as an opener but he was amazing as a middle order bat. Texan 1

I just think he never dominated the middle order for patches like Kohli did, getting multiple series of 500+ runs. But he also didnt bat like a literal tail-ender for years on years at end either. Someone like Gambhir's whole career spanned 6 years from 2007 to 2013 (dropped before CT IIRC). And here we have Kohli with his bad patch almost that long (5+ years and counting)! It's ridiculous the leeway he has gotten and TBH he should've been dropped at least 3 years ago. If a player gets 5+ years of leeway how exactly are domestic performers supposed to get into the team. BCCI essentially has made Indian cricket team an old boy's club where performances don't matter. Muloghonto 1
Adamant Posted November 9, 2024 Posted November 9, 2024 There is absolutely no comparison between Kohli and Laxman in tests, one was a rescue act other was the lead batsman of his team. Sorry, but despite all the bad performances in three of the last four years, Kohli is still well ahead of Laxman. Sehwag was a non factor in three out of four major countries, definitely not as good as Kohli.
R!TTER Posted November 9, 2024 Posted November 9, 2024 Yes the guy that's literally not won us anything of note in the fourth innings, in India or away, laying eggs left/right/center choking worse than your avg Delhi smaug at every *ing turn FFS Rahane/Pujara both have better records in a chase than this overrated * Lord, nevada, Ultimate_Game and 1 other 2 2

And Gambhir had a couple of years where he was the best Test batsman in the World. He was correctly dropped after he faded though. Ultimate_Game 1
Texan Posted November 9, 2024 Posted November 9, 2024 Ponting shocked how this guy is still in the team. Indian former cricketers don't have the guts to call this fraud out. Quote "I saw a stat the other day about Virat; it said he's only scored two (three) Test hundreds in the last five years. That didn't seem right to me, but if that is right, then that is, I mean, that's a concern. There wouldn't be anyone else probably even playing international cricket as a top-order batsman that's only scored two Test match hundreds in five years," Ponting told ICC.

Gambhir was dropped correctly but my point was that Gambhir's entire intl career was nearly the same length as Kohli's "bad form" which has been for more than 5 years now. Ponting is spot on and shows why Aussies win and Indians don't. We wasted our best bowling lineup in our history due to stars like Kohli and Rohit.

The Aussie selectors gave him a long rope.

Here we have Kohli sucking for 5+ years.

I was adding to it by saying that even Gambhir who was batting like a dream for 2 years didn't get a long runway (justifiably) when his form diminished. And that is how it should be. Ultimate_Game 1
