SOUTH AFRICA'S bowling depth

Across all formats. For pace bowling. They seem to have the greatest depth. Maybe it's the pitches that are conducive to fast bowling but if that's the case, then why doesn't Australia have the same level of depth?

India is the only team that can match south africa' bowling depth in terms of sheer pace bowling quality across formats. Australia outside big 3 Falls well short. England have too many trundlers. Nz have like 2 or 3 at best for fast bowling talents. India is probably the second best after SA in terms of pure fast bowling strength on the bench/or in domestics. Just take a look at their pace bowling options. Talking just about fast bowlers which includes fast and fast medium pacers. Players who can bowl 140 plus and maintain average speeds over 135.

1) nortje

2) jansen (hasn't been the same since rohit blasted him but still quality)

3) rabada (second best Saffer bowler ever. As good as steyn even)

4)ngidi

5) coetze (good for LOI)

6) lizaad Williams (good pace 135 to 145)

7) magala (LOI)

8) burger (top tier talent. All formats)

9) budaza (140 plus bowler)

10) mungroo 135 plus bowler

11) Ethan Bosch (140 plus for LOI) can play tests

12) dupavillan (fast medium)

13) lastly langa (he is quick)

They hv a decent domestic structure which keeps producing good bowlers (Both spin & pace).  But unfortunately the problem is quite glaring.  None of them can contribute anything with the bat when needed.  No matter what playing11 they put up in white ball cricket, their tail starts at no.7.    Jansen who bats at no. 6 is mediocre with the bat (Not saying he is a tail ender).    Bitter truth is that a bowling heavy line up will NEVER win a big tournament in any format.   SA desperately need a few Bowling ARs at this stage.    (Yes, they came close to the target in the WT20 Final, thanx to Klassen's insane hitting.  But cricket is a team game)

Agreed. If only they had 2 or 3 great batsmen

I find it strange that SA is struggling to find all rounders. Around late 90s and early 2000s they were a team known for excellent fielding and batting depth due to all rounders.

Klusenar and Kallis used to bowl full quota of overs (even used to touch 140 kmph) and were very very good batsmen in their respective roles.

Pollock was a very handy batsman.

They used to have proper batting till number 9 and then 2 specialist bowlers.

Are there any pacers of ind origin.

Bueren Hendricks.

There were a couple more in the past.

But cricket is mostly an elitist sport in SA

They don't have much quality. They all are poor in subcontinent.

Aus, Eng, NZ all beat Pakistan but SA lost to them in a test series in Pakistan.

NZ drew with Pak 0-0 in Pakistan in test series. (2023).  Yes in UAE, NZ beat Pak. I guess in 2018.     Your point is valid though.  Other SENA teams hv put up better performance in tests in subcontinent compared to SA.

Don't rate their depth.

Pacers in their 15 man squad are very impressive but after that it is much of a muchness.

White ball batting options have increased by a lot though.

That's the whole point. It's just pacers I am talking about.

Above 136 averaging pacers. 135* I mean.

South africa and India have the most number of pace bowlers who can consistently average above 135.

Also these players can hit 140 plus

Lol most of those names you've listed are trash.

You can make such list for every half decent side in the world .

No you can't.

Aus don't have as much depth

Neither do nz who only have like 3 or 4 above 135 on average and guys who can touch 140 plus overall

Pak has maybe 5 max.

SA and India have the most.

If airspeed is the only metric , then yeah Saffers generally produce a lot of genuine quicks per capita.

Number varies on the amount of overs.

If they have to bowl only 1 or 2 overs...they will clock 145.

If the overs are around 10...the speed will hover at 135.

Increase the overs to 15 or above, the same 145k fast bowlers will bowl at 128-130k and then will blame speedometer for registering lower speeds.

Biggest example in recent times was Amir, while bowling 5 over vs USA...he was frigging tired and had no control. His weak malnourished, drug addict body just gave up.
