I believe it was 58.87 in tests cricket. Around the 90th test match where he scored a 100 against Zimbabwe

Don't know that but had he retired after winning the 2011 WC (as he should have imo) his test avg would have been 56.94 after 177 matches & 14692 runs.

Steven Smith averages 57 after 109 matches. He wouldn't be able to maintain it at 150th test.

Yeah after the 1st test  at Nagpur vs Zim in Feb 2002. He had scored a 176. Innings victory for India.
