I dare say it's China. US can hurt us. China can kill us. Access to oil and rare earth will drive our growth engine. If US isn't giving technology, there is nothing here we can't do without. They know that further they squeeze us we go into the other corner. In the long run Eurasia is gateway to India's future. Not the west. US is still India's largest consumer market and we cannot just let it go. Remember India's interest lies with USA, no country in modern history after world war 2 developed without western capital not even china. We need their markets, investment, and technology to drive our development goals. To maintain 7% growth rate US and West is critical. That being said we also need China for our manufacturing to grow faster. De coupling from both is not an option yet.
G_B_ Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 It seems trump now threatening to hit europe with tarriffs over fines to google.. As mentioned before these deals are only on paper.
bharathh Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 You give in once to these bullies and things only get worse as they know the bullying works. Look at Japan and South Korea and Europe. Nothing they do is enough. We would be stupid to give in. If they tariff IT, the companies can decide if they are ok losing half their companies' networth to side with Trump and Co. If yes, then we need to fight dirty as well. Give them the finger for as long as required and keep doing your thing. We need to learn from Russia and China. India had to face up to this at some point. Can't be dependent on one country or ecosystem. Ban all American tech and use only Indian stuff (we should not revert to Chinese). From an India perspective if we need to improve, we need to tackle corruption and reservation culture first. Without becoming a meritocracy we are doomed. War is coming. Not sure with whom but there is going to be war very soon. Civil and external—across the world as unemployment, inflation etc go up. We better hang on. It's going to be a wild ride. someone 1

bharathh Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 Also, Trump will pass away soon. He looks like he's having a lot of health issues. Once he goes, the MAGA movement will crumble as they will be too busy fighting each other for first place to succeed Trump. We need to hold strong. I sincerely hope we do.

IndianRenegade Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 (edited) 3 hours ago, G_B_ said: So as per FT Japan has 45 days to invest 550 billion usd or tarriffs will rise from 15% to 27.5% (with a threat of more). An American committee will decide where money is "invested". This "deal" they have is worse than the tarriffs. This also ignores the fact that usa wants Japan to buy lots of expensive military hardware. @IndianRenegade you keep mentioning a MEA failure. Is ths above what success looks like? In the comments of the FT most Europeans are calling this a very bad deal for Japan. My critisism of MEA is solely predicated on how they handled interactions with Trump post Ops Sindhoor, not how the trade deal is being handled. If all of this break down in ties are solely from the fact India refuses to accept US terms with regards to the trade deal, then it is something we should wear it proudly like a battle scar. But we know from various reporting the fall out started because of India's refusal to credit trump & Modi's call, in the larger scheme of things tactically giving some credit to Trump & massaging Trumps ego if it might secure better material impact. Reports also suggest US trade negotiators have felt good about the Indian offer & taken it to Trump at least twice, would a Trump who didn't feel insulted have acted differently? we never know. And then there is the fact that our stance was directly impacting the Objectives of Op Sindhoor, which I believe is to send a message to Pakistan. Irking trump resulted in him often talking about Op in an unfavorable way for India, further emboldening Mulla Munir who might view it as two superpowers backing his misadventures. Not to forget how the MEA took the lead on Op Sindhoor briefing & was flunking on a daily basis until MOD took over. Japanese deal is bad, they are banking on a distracted trump, political headwind from the mid terms but what they have signed on paper is geopolitical jizya. ravishingravi Posted September 6, 2025 Author Posted September 6, 2025 One thing is for sure. We better get used to the heat. We are getting closer to centre table. No getting away now. Ring of fire and we need to get through it. Our bureaucracy our institutions better get used to greater scrutiny and pressure. China went through it. It will be worse for us. Till it gets better.

Japanese deal is bad, they are banking on a distracted trump, political headwind from the mid terms but what they have signed on paper is geopolitical jizya. There are bigger headwinds at play. They don't want India to be an exporter of oil. The Saudis and Qataris have a big part to play in this as well. Saudi oil has lost it's monopoly in Europe and we cannot be bullied on oil for the time being. Only an idiot or truly desperate person would want to wash Trump's ass. You can see clearly what is happening to Europe. Today it is asking for Nobel. Tomorrow he will want concessions for airbases in India or give up parts of Kashmir to Pak. India doesn't want Trump or the US to talk about Kashmir issue. We have always kept it a bilateral issue between us and Pak. If US can get involved now - there is no saying when the US or others will get involved again. Perhaps the folks at the MEA know better than us tyros. Regardless, let's see how this plays out. I'm just wondering why all the tech CEOs are kowtowing to Trump so much. With global businesses they have completely surrendered. Very strange to see all these mutinational CEOs acting like sheep with Trump. Nauseating to see ppl like Cook, Pichai etc. act like pathetic clowns in front of him. Not the way they are treating allies from Europe to Japan. The best india can hope for is 20%. And this includes a plethora of hidden charges. Its best to take a hit and build your other resources and ride out 4 years. The maga base always hated india and indians. There was hope likes of musk or vance would put a lid on it. Instead you have loomer and others holding sway.
