Indian first Choice XI for T20

We are at a time when T20 is looking like our strongest format which was never the case for a very long time. Guys who come in side as fringe players are making very strong case. Of course our selectors and management will take brain dead decisions when selecting the team but what would be your ideal choice for our first choice T20 XI (or at least the squad of 15). Keep in mind the next World Cup would be in The subcontinent and that is what you have to build up to.

Guys who pick themselves up automatically according to me

The pool we have is

Top order - GIll, Jaiswal, Abhishek, Sanju, Tilak,

Middle order - SKY, RInku, Riyan, Pant

All-rounder - Axar, Pandya, Reddy, Ramandeep

Spinner- Varun, Kuldeep, Bishnoi

Pacer- Bumrah, Arshdeep, Mayank, AKashdeep, Siraj, Shami, Khaleel

You can drop RIyan, Gill, Reddy, Ramandeep, Siraj, Khaleel, Shami, Gill to get your squad of 15

My Ideal XI would be this combination

Two of Jaiswal/Abhishek/ Sanju depending on form

One of TIlak/Pant/Rinku

SKY

Pandya

Axar

Kuldeep/Bishnoi

Varun

Arshdeep/Mayank based on conditions can even play both if you want to rest Bumrah for a easy game

Bumrah

Finally I think Jaiswal, Pant, Kuldeep  currently don’t find a place but they are in squad and are tried and tested. Jaiswal may be better than Abhishek/Sanju in pressure or slightly challenging conditions but that is what should be tested. Need to see more of Akashdeep as wicket taking option at start in T20s as Arshdeep is very off an on sometimes.

Lot of these spots would depend on the form. And we have a long way to go and lot can change by then

Finally it looks like we have cracked this format. We were way below our actual potential in this format.

Key to success in this format is -

Need impetus from the top order, need your aggressive batsmen at 1-2-3 and not at 6-7-8. If you get quick starts you will always be ahead in the game.

Samson and Tilak have performed beyond expectations. So from now, Pant, Gill, and Dube are safely out. Might me used as backups but that's it.

Funny thing is SKY is no near our best batsman now. He was world's best batsman for three years.

not Dube until Ramandeep does well.

Jaiswal

Samson

Tilak

SKY

Rinku

Pandya

XXX1

XXX2

Varun

Bumrah

Arshdeep

Contenders for XXX1 and XXX2 based on conditions - Parag, NKR , Axar, Ramandeep, Harshit

We have to keep Gill, Kuldeep, Pant and Siraj away from this format.

The core is set but still some issues to solve

Death bowling remains a big concern in absence of Bumrah. Need atleast 2 death over specialists who can nail yorkers and cutters under pressure.

yes pace bowling in general is not our strong point. Some options need to be tried from new lot like harshit, Mayank, Akashdeep who can be developed

Death bowling is overrated by us a lot.

If you have the batting depth, good wicket taking new ball bowling and decent spinners for the middle overs, your team is sorted.

On flat pitches, all bowlers get slaughtered at the death.  Bumrah is an extreme outlier.

We should be able to win with or without Bumrah

getting slaughtered for 10 or for 20 makes all the difference. We need bowlers who can minimise damage. Many times games come down to last 5 overs

I really want to see how Shakib Hussain at ipl..very impressed with his yorkers, bouncers etc in kkr practice matches..if he is able to replicate same in ipl..then we shud have a good option to try in internationals..due to his death bowling skills..

1. Samson

2. Jaiswal / Abhishek

3. Tilak

4. SKY

5. Parag / Rinku

6. Hardik / Nitish .. batting A/R

7. Axar .. A/R

8. Harshit .. bowling A/R

9. Arshdeep / Bishnoi

10. Chakravarty

11. Mayank / Bumrah in WCs only

This is good xi:

as far as bowling is concerned we need 3 penetrative bowlers those are always have the chance of picking up wkts..

Boom 5/5

Mayank 3.5/5

Chakravarthy 4/5

Bishnoi 3.5/5

Arshdeep(depending if ball is moving + death bowling time)3 or 4

Harshit.yet to see at international level

From ur xi we can always have 3 such bowlers..if Harshit comes out >3 with his batting ability its going to give us lot of penetration and balance..

We don't have high pace options to restrict batters at the death. All are injured or not ready. No point fretting about it.

If you take enough wickets upfront and through the middle , death over scoring rates will reduce as a consequence.

Mayank is 4.5 / 5.

So accurate and bouncy at express pace.

I want to see him against SENA first..esp due to his reduced speeds between 145-150..

if he was still bowling 150k+ then >4 easily..

I hope he is back to express pace..it gives the thrill..which we saw in ipl

We still have 1.5 years to WT20. Such options can easily be created

Batsmen are smart enough to sit on new ball bowlers and wait for death overs to plunder runs. Such obvious weakness puts massive pressure on other areas to cover up.

If batsmen sit on new ball bowlers l, they won't be able to score above par anyway.

The only way you can add another pace option for death is if you either remove Arshdeep or remove the extra batter because India will only play 3 specialist bowlers otherwise - Bumrah and the specialist spinner being the others.

Combination doesn't allow you to play another pacer

First XI will have Bumrah, Arshdeep and Hardik only. I'm talking about 1-2 backup options since Bumrah isn't playing. Extra option also allows us to play extra seamer in place of spinner on seam friendly tracks, Axar and Parag/Abhishek doing the spin bowling duties.
