This should be his last Test. But most probably he'll play the SCG Test as well but this series should be end of the road for both Rohit and Kohli. When you're dragging youngsters down you know your time is done. Likes of Reddy, Sundar, Bumrah deserve much better than dragging these passengers every single innings and Test.

I wonder how will they justify the selection of these two over the hill 38 year olds who have fallen off the cliff. With new WTC cycle starting after this series, there's no incentive to keep them around. Not just in Tests, they need to be booted out of ODIs too. We've fearless young cricketers coming through and it's time they're finally given their due.

 

Look at our T20 team which dismantled SA without Bumrah. Or youngsters like Jaiswal, Reddy and Sundar who're keeping us afloat in Aus. Hand over captaincy to Bumrah - he deserves it - and pick deserving youngsters & performers.

They're set for next 7 generations, and if money is what they're after, there's still IPL. Look at Dhoni. He has been away for 6 years now and still making money. At this stage IMO it's their legacy that should be the top priority. Kohli is averaging 47 now and Rohit 40. These're pretty average numbers, and will go down even more.

 

If they play for another couple of years those numbers will be down to 36 and 44 respectively and India will lose out on another shot at WTC. At some point their legacy has to factor in as well. How can they justify keeping likes of Sai, Gill, Sarfaraz and others on the sidelines? And what's the point even if they score in a one off match - they're already 38 and it's not as if one knock will turn the clock back. If they were in late 20s or even early 30s you could give them benefit of doubt. But they're wrong side of 30s and look worse every time they walk out in the next innings.

I think they're beyond the "money is everything" stage. If they aren't, they should be and should worry about their legacy a lot more. Kohli has already come down from being compared to all timers to being one of the "good" batters. If he continues for a year or so more he would be out of those discussions too.
