QuarantineTormentino Posted January 3, 2025 Posted January 3, 2025 Is Bumrah’s performance this series the biggest carry job in the history of Indian cricket, better than that of Sachin in the 90s? He is 15 wickets clear so far of the next highest Indian Wicket taker in the series (Siraj with 15 wickets), and 9 clear of Cummins who is the second highest wicket taker of the series. Not to mention his ridiculous average of 13 which is almost at least double that of every other bother in the series except Boland (played 2 less matches) and Hazlewood (played 3 lesser matches) Rondu, Ultimate_Game, BacktoCricaddict and 1 other 2 2
Trichromatic Posted January 3, 2025 Posted January 3, 2025 harbhajan's 31 wickets in 2001 Chakdephatte and Vijy 1 1
Chakdephatte Posted January 3, 2025 Posted January 3, 2025 Sachin was not a series winner. Don't remember him scoring multiple 150+ scores in same series like Kohli and Dravid did at their peak. He has many one man shows in his long career but this series by Bumrah is well clear.
Chakdephatte Posted January 3, 2025 Posted January 3, 2025 Jaiswal's 700 run series against England should be mentioned. Our second highest was Gill with 430 runs. It was at best an average series for batsmen, not with easiest surfaces. Even Pujara in BGT 2018-19 and Kohli in England same year (if not for last match stinker) are ATG series. Vijy, BacktoCricaddict and Rondu 3
R!TTER Posted January 3, 2025 Posted January 3, 2025 No, the wickets have assisted him & in general he's delivered (slightly?) above expectations! Harbhajan's 31 wickets I'd rate because it was against the second best test team ever, also while Bumrah didn't have 100% control of the team from 2nd test onwards he probably could've done more in terms of a "leadership" role.
Vijy Posted January 3, 2025 Posted January 3, 2025 Pujara in 2018 BGT comes to mind; also Vinoo Mankad in the few matches India won. Dartbhajan also
sensible-indian Posted January 3, 2025 Posted January 3, 2025 (edited) Bumrah's carry job is unprecedented. This is GOAT of the GOATs performance territory. Apart from Hadlee, doubt any other pacer had this level of impact singlehandedly in a series. Ambrose had some couple of insane series in Aus..but dunno if it was a single handed carryjob. Bhajji's performance was GOAT level too. Greatest spin performance in a series that i have ever seen. But performing while your batsmen suck on foreign land with zero scoreboard pressure is next level madness. There is no comparison between the two. Edited January 3, 2025 by sensible-indian

In batting, one of the GOAT performances of Lone Warrior was the greatest 90s batter, BC Lara vs SL attack with peak Murali.

Totally. And Jimmy Amarnath. Made Windies bowlers bow down to his will. --- Special mention to ABD against prime Mitch Johnson (no one except English and Saffers faced that monster). And Tendulkar against prime Aus attack 1999 (had to deal with that attack and fraud umpires). Kohli against SA 2018 in some of the spiciest pitches ever. sensible-indian Posted January 3, 2025 Posted January 3, 2025 Just now, Vijy said: statistically, I don't know if any of them scored the fraction of runs that Lara did vs SL. Ditto also for Headley vs Eng. Jimmy would have. Didnt he score like 700? Viv too had such a series against Eng. Tho WI were strong. Lara, Jimmy performance are next level category. Waging a battle against superior opponents while your team mates are completely and utterly incapable.

He did it in WT20 and Bumrah and the lower order have been carrying this team, especially passengers like "King" Kohli for more than 5+ years now. Pity the batters could never provide him any support and he doesn't have ICC tournies which he thoroughly deserve all thanks to our batters being shyte and failing at the hint of any pressure.
vvvslaxman Posted January 3, 2025 Posted January 3, 2025 Kapil picked 29 wickets in 1983 windies tour to INdia. But others did not contribute much with ball. Vijy 1
Ultimate_Game Posted January 3, 2025 Posted January 3, 2025 @QuarantineTormentino, you've also missed the runs made by Bumrah when they were absolutely needed. He helped us avoid follow on at Gabba and going by what we saw at MCG, we probably lose the Test if we hadn't avoided the follow on. And he also scored a crucial 22 here which at least has given us something when it looked like we'll fold for 140. Bumrah has had more impact with the bat than Rohit and Kohli combined in the series. And we already know about his wkts and stellar captaincy. Bumrah is the best cricketer in the world. Period. Lord 1
