Chasing 200 is not same as trying to draw the game and getting out of 155 in 80 overs.

It's the mind set of 340 vs 200 . 340 was out of draw where is 200 is with-in-the reach. India was playing for survival hence lost the match.

Horrible strategy...playing with 2 spinners on such pitches was just dumb af. Sundar's spot was an absolute waste...imagine if we had another pacer instead of him.

They wasted him at MCG also. He was left to play tail with no ability to rotate strike.

Having survived 162 balls in first inning, he wasn't sent ahead of Jadeja to save the game.

I am not questioning Sundar's selection alone.

I am question combination of Sundar's selection + using him as batsman + using him as batsman at 8.

1. Sundar's selection as batsman and sending him in top 6 - Fine even if it hadn't succeeded.

2. Sundar's usage as AR and sending him at 7 or 8 - Still fine.

3. Sundar's usage as batsman mainly and sending him at 8 - Can't get sense of this.

They are basically accepting that we are playing with 9 players and sending Washington at effective No.6  ( actual No.8 ).

1. Jaiswal

2. Rahul

0. Rohit / Gill

0. Kohli

3. Pant

4. Jadeja

5. NKR

6. Washington

Question is, why not choose Jurel or Sarfraz instead of the 2nd spinner batsman Jadeja or Washington ?

Problem is indian players management and even fans are dumb they don't undeytest cricket or strategy or planning

Who plays 2 spinners on a green pitch

Sundar is not an all rounder

He is a strokeless tailender like gillespie

Jadeja too in sena can't be relied and they played both

How they didn't give matches to sarfaraj and jurel is beyond me

Historicaly Sydney always turns .They used new type if grass this season.

Allrounders statrgey is fundamentally wrong in Test cricket.

Aus is playing with 7 batsman + 4 bowlers for years.

SA play with 6 batsman + Mulder ( more of a bat) + Jansen + 3 bowler.

Eng play with 7 batsman + 4 bowler with Stokes as batting allrounder.

NZ play with 7 batsman + 4 bowler with Glenn Phillips batting at No. 7.

So in short, you either has to be a solid batsman who can bowl occasinally ( ala Stokes or Glenn phillips)

Or

You have to be a proper bowler capable of bowling 20 overs in a day and have decent batting abilities ( ala Jansen or Cummins).

On our case, none of NKR, Sundar or Jadeja were called in for their primary roles. They were bits and pieces for all test matches.

Earlier for us, peak Shardul was the perfect pick - A proper bowler who could take wickets and batting ability at No.8.

It'd done absolutely nothing! Our batting has been shite throughout the series, although bowling has also been below par but they created relatively enough chances.

I hope you realize we were 155 AO. Its not as if we would have chased 200.

Chasing 220 is different from playing for a draw chasing 340.

Catches win u matches it's old saying but true. Not blaming jaiswal but Luck plays a factor in cricket and 3 catches are  big miss.Remember kohli dropped brendon mcclum then he scores 300

India dropped around 10 catches if i am right in the INdia's ane do series in Pakistan. India still won it with Balaji and Irfan

India was superior team to Pakistan and Pakistan dropped much more in that series

But when two equal teams are playing catching or runoutsare  vital.

Shardul batting well at No.8 at the Gabba probably did more harm than good in the long run. He was a bowler who was improving his batting.

Soon we replaced him at No.8 with a batsman who could bowl. Now we play just 3 specialist bowlers in SENA.

Technically Sundar and  even Jadeja is better than Sarfraz. Jurel could have come in for Gill at 3

Washington is ok and should bat at 7 or 6.

Jadeja is basically hanging around these days. Sarfraz can attack more and can score big on his good days. If we go by technique, apart from NKR and maybe Jauswal, all are looking suspect.

Sarfaraz barely lasted in India when ball swung. He has no chance in SENA conditions.

Jadeja still played at Gabba. He maybe declined and needs to go but we need batsman with good defense first.
