One of the greatest Ranji performers, he should have played few tests but was unlucky with Bishen Bedi. He should have played few tests over guy like Venkat without any doubt.

Great Ranji bowlers like him & Rajinder Goel never played for India

Numerous times in Ranjis, Bombay was out of it, had conceded first innings lead etc. Then it was the last day and Shivalkar came on to bowl.

 

In tests they said you have not won until the "fat man" (Warne) has bowled. In Ranjis you had not won until Paddy had bowled.

I can’t speak to how they would have ultimately performed, but he and Rajinder Goel would have easily gotten into just about any other Test side in the world. 
 

One can’t give a domestic cricketer a greater compliment.
